Sorry to hijack this, but I'm tagging this thread as I will be getting married in Jan, and my fiancee needs to have a dress made.

Anyone know where to get a dress made fairly cheaply in Korea?

I'm not a girl, but I used to live near Ewha Womens university, and between the subway stop for that university and Ahyeon station, there are a ton of wedding dress shops on that road. Just walk towards Ahyeon from Ewha

There are also a lot of wedding stores in Cheong-Dam, but I imagine they're quite expensive.

Yes, Ahyeon is your best bet. Look for the sign saying Wedding Town (it is not particularly obvious at first). It is after the pedestrian bridge. If you hit a vegetable market, you have gone WAY too far...There is also a mini red light district at the end of Wedding Town (erm...for the grooms?).

I believe you can rent a dress at the wedding hall too.

What's the point of buying a wedding dress if its going to sit in storage your whole life.

You could go to Shanghai and have one custom made or just check out the wedding hall stop between Ewha and Ahyun stations.

Our wedding hall had dresses and tuxes as part of the deal. I was amazed they could find something for me, as I am nearly 6'3" tall. Western-sized women would probably have some more difficulty, I'd guess.

Yeah, I second the China thing. I had my wedding dress made in China, out of really beautiful white silk. It cost me less than $100.

Or you could just order on online from someplace like David's Bridal and have it mailed to your parents. Get it in your size, and then if it needs it, have someone help with minor adjustments before the wedding. They have some nice dresses in the $100 range.

I'm looking at the moment too, so much fun!! My wedding will be in Korea so i'm going to hire, but have you thought about trying loads of dresses on to see what style you like and then ordering that style from the internet? There's so many sites with dresses priced from 200-up dollars. You could have it shipped here and get it fitted really cheap, then it would be ready to take home with you for the wedding.

going to china sounds like a fun way to get a nice dress.

also i never really considered ordering online, ive looked through sites for dieas but so worried about fit........

it is a good thought to try on and choose a style, order online and then having alterations if necessary!

thanlks!

I got my dress, strapless with lace, made at one of the shops new Ewha. Was in 2001 and cost 400,000 won. They could have altered one for me but I never like the way an altered dress looks. I always felt as if they never got it quite right. I'm not small either and that would have limited my choices as well.

I planned my wedding from Korea last year. E-mail and phone cards are a wonderful thing.

I bought my dress from a shop in Ewha Women's University area. They took my measurements and custom made it for me. I liked the dress in the store, but I wanted a long pink bow to trail down the back and over the train. They made two bows for me, a pink and a white one in case a changed my mind. It was/is a very elaborate dress with lots of bead work and a long train, so it cost a bit more. It was about 1.2 million won. I don't regret paying that though as I looked at similar styles to what I wanted online and they were more expensive. They made it in about 6 months, but I didn't need it in a hurry at the time. I think they could have made it faster if I wanted them to.

I guess it really depends on what kind of dress you want. I was very happy with mine and there was no problem with size and I'm not the average Korean size.

By the way, I had no problem shipping it home to Canada, it just needed to be steamed a little when it got there.

I had mine made at a shop at Ewha university and I was really pleased. I just found a picture of what I wanted and walked around all the shops and asked what the cost would be, then I chose a shop.
