The word from my parents is that Obama and the Democrats are trying to make talk shows like Rush Limbaugh illegal unless they also have a concurrent show which has a liberal voice in response. The same would be for pro-left shows.
The problem with this is that shows like Rush Limbaugh are popular because there is a perception that the mainstream US media is very left-leaning in general (with Fox being the one exception and the other 3 major networks being left).
This should be one hell of an issue if it comes to light. |

Let the right-wing wackjobs have their talk shows and AM radio shows. The left-wing has the market cornered on incisive satire. |

The only way republicans can get things done is by appealing to the fringo nutjobs that make up their base.
The only way dems can get things done is by silencing any dissent. |

Keith Olbermann looks like the cat who swallowed the canary. He mentioned that his show has beaten Bill O'Reilly's show 5 of the last 11 days. Bill O'Reilly is spitting nickels and whining about a conspiracy at Neilson ratings. |

I'm so old, I remember Joe Pyne - the grandaddy of all rabble-rousing right-wing talk-show hosts (and more real than Joe the Plumber...)

It's America, I don't EVER see that happening.
It sounds like something you'd hear on rightwing talk radio though.
Most likely someone who is part of the ringwing talk radio circuit heard of some congressman who suggested the idea, and then they quickly fed it to their audiences as inevitable, doom and gloom, grab your guns and hide into your bomb shelters and stock up on as much water and canned goods as you can get your hands on type thing. |

I'm curious where this came from. Can you ask your parents how they heard this? Was there an article in a newspaper or was this an email?
It would be interesting to hear the source behind it. |

There has been talk of bringing back the Fairness Doctrine which was in effect for decades until it was allowed to lapse. It said something like: The airwaves are public property, so if you are going to use them, you have to provide equal time to all sides in political discussions. Fox News is having heart palpitations over the idea of having to find shows that would 'balance' Bill and Sean. |

Let me guess...they heard this on a talk show like Rush Limbaugh's? |

Actually I was able to find the source (or at least this is what I believe where it came from). Former Governor of Delaware Pierre Du Pont IV the great nephew of Pierre Samuel Du Pont who founded, yes you guessed it DuPont.
Du Pont is also the Chairmen of the Board of the Hudson Institute a conservative thinktank and writes a monthly column for the Wall Street Journal (yes, the same one owned by Fox News). The article is dated 10/27/2008:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122504438328069963.html
This is about as close as I can find in terms of details on Obama's website:

BINGO!
The far right know about fascist dreams of imposed social order and get easily worked up at the thought of others doing as they would do! |

Not a right-wing proposal, unless someone can post evidence. Rather, sounds more like a weak leftist attempt to bait and induce more "Obama-the-Socialist" nonsense, right Bassexpander, Mr. "the-word-from-my-parents-is-that...?" |
