I agree with Kuros. I'd like to see Gates stay on for a little and be replaced by a Democrat, because they both need to and can prove they are better on national security.

You need someone who understands what an exit strategy is and how to accomplish it with success.

# Is a vital national security interest threatened?
# Do we have a clear attainable objective?
# Have the risks and costs been fully and frankly analyzed?
# Have all other non-violent policy means been fully exhausted?
# Is there a plausible exit strategy to avoid endless entanglement?
# Have the consequences of our action been fully considered?
# Is the action supported by the American people?
# Do we have genuine broad international support?

The Democrats have good people, including S. Nunn and, one of my own favorites, R. Holbrooke, who might serve at the Pentagon.

"Soldier, you've got thirty seconds to get your shit and get your ass on that 141 or you're shuffling back to Bragg."

See? Exit strategy. Done.

One reason why the next president ought to leave several key security-related cabinet members in place for the remainder of 2009...

What's a model system? I'm just wondering where you set the bar.

I can know our systems suck yet not have a better solution, which I don't. Peasants in the 12th century would have laughed out loud if you told them our political systems would be as open as they are today. There is no model system yet, as humans aren't even close to being smart enough to make one, me included. When humans actually grow up, there will be better systems (and they will not look like capitalism or democracy as we know it). Actually, we probably won't even need to vote, as we will know who would best lead.

While I think laogaiguk was referring to government models, I have to say the Single Transferable Vote is pretty cool. Wouldn't really work in a Presidential system though.

Yes because we will evolve and develop empathetic communicative skills that will allow us to communicate with everyone on earth and beyond.

Just thought I'd finish off your thought I mean that was where you were going with that one right?

Don't be an ass. Who the hell knows? I meant more when people are actually all educated and able to choose a person based on intellect and not emotion (also when money doesn't choose the person).

Try to think outside that pathetically small box you have created for yourself (as most, especially on this forum, have).

I'm not too fond of allowing Rethugicans into the incoming administration. But I'm sure this will work in everyone's favor. They can help clean up the mess they made. Sen. Bagel- get a shovel.

Let's take Gen. Powell for instance. Don't think he endorsed Sen. Obama for nothing. Sen. Obama somewhat promised him a position of sorts in his administration just before the endorsement. Gen. Powell gets to clean up his reputation and Sen. Obama get the political version of "Sammy Gravano". Powell will give him the goods, the dirt, the names, and the dates. If Obama has time he might make something with it and put some folks in the slammer, or better yet, GUANTANAMO BAY (if he doesn't close it first).
