Do I have to attend a 3 day overnight field trip, if we have to sllep on the floor, I hate Korean food, I have to share a room with VP and god knows who else and it includes a Saturday. I was up for it when I first got here, we agreed that I should not because I got sick off Korean food, my co-teacher just said I should. Resposes not idiotic would be appreciated. I am with GEPIK. I am fairly new here too and I am the forst native teacher that the school has had. Mind you I went to the hospital off thos stuff.

Sounds like you should get "sick" the day before the trip.

I would if I were you.
It would help to build relationships with your school and coworkers. It WILL HELP you to have them like you and respect the fact that you came and participated. It went a LONG way with our school that we accepted dinners and went on their weekend teachers' trip. We don't do half as much with them now but the occasional dinner and that one trip have smoothed our path.

Bring some food of your own. Sit there during the meals and just drink or eat the rice. Smile and chat, and bear it. It will be uncomfortable, but it's worth it.

Give some get some type situation.

Assuming your overtime rate is 20,000 won, they should pay you 720,000 won for a 3-day (36 hours) field trip.

Undoubtedly they won't pay that much, but that's what I would be expecting.

I wouldn't go on the field trip for anything less than that.

I would post multiple threads on a message board hoping some other whiteys agree with what I've already decided so I can feel better about my decision.

Nah, I wouldn't do that either. If you don't want to go, don't go. If you want to go, go.

If you think they're gonna pay you 700,000 for a trip with the teachers, you're a moron and should go just to get a dose of reality.

Just refuse. What can they do? They probably don't want you there all that much anyway, they are just being nice. Practice the old typing skills instead.

Don't go. You climb a mountain (walk up a hill), drink soju (one cup for twenty people *vomit*), walk back down, drink more soju (ame cup), go to dinner (share food and spit *vomit*), share shot glasses again in a primitive bonding ritual *more vomit*), then sleep in the same room as someone you don't know with the heat on high, and the windows open.

In the morning you will either be a jedi knight or best of friends.

No I don't mind stuff like that at all. All the Kids in the school are going to clean an elderly center or place or something like that Nowmind you I am not heartless I would not mind community service but 3 days of it and I dont even really know the entire details of what is going on. Stuck without a way home, I have no idea of where it is, or what I will be doing and the only person that speaks English is my female co-teacher. WTF Shocked Dont you guys see my concern.

My students are in Seoul today for a 3 day trip. I simply said that I was not available due to family obligations.

Nothing was said afterwards.

Well, I've said it before, but I will say it again. At least they asked you. One of the reasons I left another school was because I was excluded from everything.

I did the 3 day camp with my (new) middle school third graders in June and I remember I got an extra day off the next week. All teachers did. Check that out. (And it wasn't half as bad as I expected and I expected it to suck.

I can't say it much better than many others but goodwill, goes a long, long way here. Seriously.

I'd say, suck it up, bring a laptop, watch some movies, borrow a PSP or DS Lite, sleep all afternoon, do your own hike, walk to the nearest town, whatever it takes to make you happy. No matter what, I support your decision. Have a good weekend.
