I've just arrived in Korea in the last few days and the lack of a Cell phone is really driving me mad. My English phone seems to work but i cut my contract off before i moved here so cant text or anything.

Is there anyway i can get a Cell as pay as you go for the time being until i get my medical and ARC etc and can register for a contracted cell?? So that i least have some form of communication!

Cheers.

Go to Itaewon and get a used prepaid phone.
Take your passport.
There are a few stores to choose from in the alley with all the African shops or the cell store by Noksapyeong station next to Istanbul.
Should cost you like 50-80,000 for a decent used phone.

pay as you go = yes.
without your ARC still = yes.
You DO need your passport.

Shop around for a used one. You should be able to find something for about 30k -50k won at one of the shops close to where you live/work. You will need to put an initial load of 30k won on for your first prepayment. After that you can top up - 10k at a time as you need it.

You can also get them under the Nanjin arcade in Yongsan:

for 20-50k without much problem.

My problem is a little different. My hagwon gave me a cell phone, which is great, but it's an LG phone that I can't figure out how to do anything with because everything's in Korean. Oh, there's an English mode, but that really doesn't do anything but allow me to see the functions in English. Once I start doing something, the phone pretty much thinks I now want to do everything in Korean. I can't even figure out how to program phone numbers into this phone. I have an MP3, but I can't figure out how to do anything but listen to the two obnoxious songs already on it. I tried buying a USB cord for the phone, but when I stuck it into my computer the LG program it started to install crashed and my computer really doesn't even recognize the phone now (not sure if it's because my computer is English and the phone is Korean or what).

So, my question is: Is it possible to actually buy an actual English function phone (so EVERYTHING is in English) and link it up to whatever number they have for me for my job here? It's nice having a free phone, but if you can only use it for very limited functionality, it sucks. I so, so, so, so miss my iPhone.
