What is up with my Skype. I originally put 12,000 won on my account. It worked for one day, then my account was blocked. Since then my account was been working, then blocked every few days. The quailty of the calls has been good so, I thought I would subscribe for $5.95/month. Still, it works some days and other days it is blocked. I have emailed there tech support several times. What's next? Is there an alternative to Skype when making PC to landline calls?
Oh yeah, and I have confirmed with my credit card company that I am in Korea, the funds have already been take from my MC.

If you are American or Canadian, look into "MagicJack".

For your problem though, how is your internet connection?

Calling Canada...internet connection is excellent. I have read somewhere that if your IP addess registers from a different country then your CC, then they will have to verify, but went through that process two weeks ago.

I paid with PayPal and US CC before. I'm amazed at how much talk time i get for just $10. Never had issues with dropped calls, can't say the same for my AT&T cell phone that i used to have.

I just love the fact i can call TOLL FREE calls for free from Skype. Yea, those long ass times you're stuck on hold from Customer Service don't cost you a penny.

Myself nor any of my friends or family have ever had the problem you are experiencing. Why not go to the SKYPE JOURNAL forum and see if anyone there has encountered it.

Because of my mom passing this onth, I've had to call Canada nearl every day. I've had absolutely no problems this month calling Canada.

That being said, I was chatting with a bud in Seoul (20 mins away), and we had 6 drop calls in a row.

Maybe just luck of the draw?

I've found their customer support non-existent. After they came out with an updated program, I had problems. I uninstalled the program and then reinstalled it. That fixed my problem. You can log onto your account and see what programs you have paid for and the status of each. Try that if after reinstalling you continue to have problems.

Has their video improved, BTW? How about voice quality?

I find Skype really lame compared with phone to phone. I was using it with high speed to high speed as well. This was a year ago.

Korea has an online telephony that is easy to use. It's called imTEL. Simply have one of your Korean buddies set it up for you. There is an English site for it. The only thing you cannot do is add minutes yourself, since it requires a Korean credit card. (unless you have your own Korean credit card). Get a friend to transfer minutes to your account and pay them for this.

I like imTEL in that it has a better and much easier to use answering machine. The Skype one sucks and almost never works. After you listen to the message, it's gone! (That is, if you're able to retrieve it!)

I don't know about Magic jack. If this is anything like VoiP, Korea has this too. VoiP through CJ internet is 2,000 won a month, plus pay per minute for the phone calls. It's still better than paying any other way to call mobiles and internationally, from a landline.

50 won per minute to America on VoiP.

I probably average about 4 incoming calls per day. I have messages that were recorded months ago on InSkype number and they remain in my history for me to replay until I delete them. I find that except for the one difficulty, it has worked consistently and has worked well.
