Check out the thread called Dave's ESL Cafe Search Tool. I bumped so it's up there now. Your search problems are over... |

contact www.disclosurescotland.com
Costs 20 but you will need to show evidence of your current address. Takes up to 10 days from them receiving it. they are much quicker than any other route.
You HAVE to get it notarized by a solicitor then appostled at the FCO in Milton Keynes. Anyone can do this on your behalf in the UK. Notary should only cost 20 and the Apostle 27.
Hope this helps |

What's the best way to do this if I'm in South Korea? Disclosure Scotland or something else? Then can the embassy in Seoul notarize and apostle it or does that need to be done in the UK? I don't suppose the embassy can do a criminal background check can they? |

You can take your CRC in person to the consular section of the British Embassy in Seoul to have it notarised for 57,000 won. If you want you can post it there with an SAE and 60,000 won (3000 for return postage) with a short note telling them what you want. I phoned directly to the UK Embassy in Seoul for this information. YOU CAN NOT USE DISCLOSURE SCOTLAND ONLINE IF YOU ARE IN KOREA. End of story.
Whilst in Seoul, you might also take the trouble to get your university diplomas notarised as well. It's not required at the moment but may be in the future and you could save yourself some time in the future. |

Right.. so I need some other CRC then.
If I haven't lived in England for the last 10 years.. will any constabulary give me a CRC? And can I do it by post or internet? And what details do they take? Name and DOB? National Insurance No.? Passport no.? This all sucks.. |

The recommended CRC is the Subject Access check from the Police NAtional Computer. Go to the web site of the local police service in the area you last lived (or the area you have proof of address for) Say it's London for example that would be the Met Police. Print of the form. You need 10 quid, proof or address plus proof of identity (passport/driver's licence) send or take all this to your local police. They deal with it. The maximum time by law is 40 days after receipt. If you're going home then you're sorted.
This Subject Access can then be appostilled at the FCO in Milton Keynes without any notary. (Perhaps the basic disclosure does but the Subject access doesn't) That's 27 quid. The you're good to go!
You can also get the SA apostilled (well stamped) at the UK embassy in Seoul for 60,000w
If you can get the forms off now then you can get the process going. |

So the subject access form can be appostilled without a notary?
If I had a penny for every time I've read conflicting statements on these forums...I'd have 3.73. |
