I haven't seen anyone mention this on Dave's before, but those of you who have lived in Japan may be interested to know that there is now a Coco Curry House in Seoul near Gangnam Station. I don't know how long it's been there, but it appears to be brand new.
I used to eat there quite a bit when I lived in Japan, so it was nice to eat there again this afternoon. The menu is similar to the Japanese menu, but it doesn't have everything. My favourite dish, hirekatsu kare, was unfortunately not on the menu, so I opted for the rosukatsu kare which was almost as good.
It's about a 3 or 4 minute walk from Gangnam Station exit 7. Here's a link to the map:

I'm a huge fan of CoCo Ichiban (7 years in Fukuoka). I always get the chicken kutz curry (sometimes with cheese). I hope the quality of the kutz are the same as the kutz I've had in Korea don't even compare. Do they allow you to order it spicier? |

^ yeah same as me, their chicken katsu is so damn tasty (never tried it with cheese though, gotta remember that one).
I used to eat there like every week in Tokyo, it always hit the spot. I'd usually empty out most of the fukujinzuke jar by the end of the meal as well. |

Yes, you can choose how spicy you want on a rating of 1 to 10. |

Totally overrated. Sorry. It's the McD's of curry. Not even good curry. I lived in Japan for 2 years myself.

^ dude, it's fast food and doesn't pretend to be otherwise. But it's damn tasty nonetheless (addictively so) and fills you up for less than $10. That's pretty well all there is to it. What do you expect exactly? |

Depends if you like Japanese style curry really (you can find it in Korea too). Usually this kind of curry is like the really cheap instant kind you make at home (just add water) and throw on some rice. Coco Ichibanya is still basically a fast food type of chain, but they make the curry fresh in big cauldrons and fry up the katsu etc. to order, so the quality is better (you can't really make it the same way they do at home). It's kind like comparing instant ramen you'd make at home to the real stuff at a ramen shop. I mean, it's not exactly brilliant or anything, but I personally think it's really tasty. There's a bunch of such curry rice chains around Japan, Coco is probably the best one though (imo).
But if you don't like the Japanese style curry (a touch sweet and savory, not the same as Indian curry), then of course you won't like it... |

coco ichi has some of THE BEST curry in japan.
the people at the place i go to know me...i mean KNOW me, like "we know you're going to order that pari-pari chiken curry. i've just got to push this button..."
the half-size is great for when you just need a little something to tide you over. |

They also have Curry House in Hawaii. When I went to Japan, I felt there were a lot better curry places than Coco Ichibanya but here in Korea, I haven't been able to find much. I visit the one in Gangnam Station quite often. |

Is that the Japanese chain where if you finish the one kilo bad boy, you get it for free? |

While I do agree that CoCo Ichiban is the McDs of curry, I do not agree that their curry is of poor quality. In fact, I believe it is rather well regarded in Japan. However, you can find much better curry at small family-owned curry shops but at a premium price. Good food for when you're piss drunk. |
