Yeah. I'm a bit surprised this board hasn't been hacked yet. phpBB is sooooo not secure.

It was hacked... and badly in maybe 2003, was it? These hacking attempts are why the search feature only searches once every minute or two.

I really love Dave's Cafe, and I have found it very useful, but there are a few things that do need to change. The search function is one of them.
Oskinny1, thanks a lot, this is very helpful. For once we can find what we are looking for.

MODS PLEASE MAKE THIS A STICKY

Pretty cool, thanks for the link. Although it does give results for all of Dave's forum. It would be cool to have a google search limited to the Korean forums.

I was the one who made that Custom Google search Engine for all of ESL Cafe.

As per your comment, I have now made one specifically for the Korea Forums: http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=006359271486458796786%3Azldpir6y9yy. It's an awkwardly long link, so it might be a good idea to bookmark it or use this TinyURL instead: http://tinyurl.com/ESLCafeKoreaGoogleSearch.

Please let me know how it works out for you.

Cheers!

I can help you with that.

Are you currently using or would you be willing to use the FireFox web browser with the Greasemonkey extension?

Thank you very much for setting up this search engine. It's very useful.

Another question: Is there a certain command that we can type in the search box that will allow it to sort results by date? For example, if I do a search for "Christmas" and I want the first result to be the most recent posting that contained the word "Christmas," the second result to be the second most recent, etc.

Hi there,

I'm glad you're enjoying the search engine. Thank you for your question.

Unfortunately, whereas regular Google Search does allow sorting search results by date, Google Custom Search doesn't currently allow this.

However, It turns out that there is a good and fast way to filter the custom search results by date, thus limiting them to, say, last week, or last month, or last year, etc. The returned results will still be jumbled in terms of date, but that might not matter to you, since they'll all fall within the dange range you're looking for, and will be sorted by relevance within that date range.

I have written a blog post as a complete guide to doing this filtering. It includes step-by-step instructions, a couple of before/after screenshots, and a shortcut you can bookmark to save yourself time. You can find it here.

In summary, here are the steps:
1. Perform your search
2. Find the address (URL) of the Search Results page. Append to it the following text: &as_qdr=d
3. Press Enter. The search results page will reload, but next to the Google Search box at the top, you will now see a dropdown box that allows you to filter for past 24 hours, past week, past year, etc

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

This allows you to add a google search engine to your search engine list in Firefox that will search only ESL cafe Korean Forums.

1) Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3682 and install this plugin.

2) Go to http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=006359271486458796786%3Azldpir6y9yy (credit to Korussian for this custom search) then right click in the search box that you see on that page.

3) Select "add to search bar" from the drop down menu. You're done!

4) Now you have your own Firefox custom built google search engine that searches the Korean Forums.

Sweet huh?
