Ha I was just about to post that.

That's one reason. The other reason is to point out a simple fact, which is constantly being ignored in this thread: the Mormons are not the outfit involved in the OP.

Taking in girls and women aged 16 to 28, Mercy Ministries claims to offer residents support from "psychologists, general practitioners, dietitians, social workers, [and] career counsellers". These claims are made on its website, and the programs are promoted through Gloria Jean's cafes throughout Australia.

But these former residents say no medical or psychological services were provided - just an occasional, monitored trip to a GP, where the consultation takes place in the presence of a Mercy Ministries staff member or volunteer.

Instead, the program is focused on prayer, Christian counselling and expelling demons from in and around the young women, who say they begged Mercy Ministries to let them get medical help for the conditions they were suffering, which included bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders and anorexia.

'Child-witches' of Nigeria seek refuge

The devil's children are "identified" by powerful religious leaders at extremist churches where Christianity and traditional beliefs have combined to produce a deep-rooted belief in, and fear of, witchcraft. The priests spread the message that child-witches bring destruction, disease and death to their families. And they say that, once possessed, children can cast spells and contaminate others.

I need to point out fiveeagles believes in witches in africa, helping reinforce this heinous crime.

Here's an interesting one about Mormons:

I admit that the Mormon leader has a point about asking a church to modify its beliefs.

I think it's nobody else's business if two people want to have a same-sex marriage, but I think it is wrong for the state to force a church to hold same-sex marriage ceremonies. If I understand the recent news item correctly, that is what the state is trying to force the Mormon church to do.

Any of the rest of you have any feelings on that?

If I recall, Canada's same sex legislation is about that exactly. Churches don't have to marry same sex couples and are not libel if they refuse. Oddly, churches fought against this legislation.

What did they fight for?
Did they want it mandated for all churches or forbidden for all churches?

Nobody's trying to force any church or other religious group to carry out a marriage contrary to that religious group's requirements. The issue in California is that a majority of those voting passed a proposition to amend the state's constitution to prohibit same-sex marriage.

Well, churches are largely "I want my cake and eat it too" types. The courts struck down laws about m/f marriage. When there's no law, it's legal in Canada. So gays could marry no problem. The government decided to introduce legislation that sought to protect churches from being sued under human rights legislation. But since it didn't ban gay marriage (because like the courts found it unconstitutional) the churches fought the legislation.

Geez.

Just wow:

Article wrote:
WICHITA, KAN. -- A Wichita, Kansas preacher says he will not remove a message on his church sign that says President-Elect Barack Obama is a Muslim.

The sign is staying up despite the fact that Obama is a Christian.

The sign at Spirit One Christian Center reads, "America we have a Muslim president. This is sin against the Lord."

Obama supporters reportedly got into a shouting match with parishioners outside the church on Sunday.
