I've been playing Winning Eleven 2008 for over a year now and not once have I seen any of the guys from this forum that are on my friends list playing it, but I'm going to ask nonetheless.
Does anyone have an opinion on the newest releases of these long-running franchises? I've been a Winning Eleven (Pro Evo) fan since about 2000, and haven't played a Fifa game since 2001.
I played the demos for both of them from Xbox Live and, while I found the slow pace of Fifa both surprising and annoying, I think Fifa has all the best ideas this time round (the over-the-shoulder style of playing as only one player, 10 v 10 online play) while Winning Eleven just seems like more of the same old same old (and 2008 was just more of the same from the time before).
Has anyone played either or both of them a bit more in depth and been able to form a good opinion? |

all of the reviews I have seen swing in Fifa 09's favour. Pro Evolution was the one I used to play but going by all of the positive reviews (it has 88% on metacritic, based on 32 reviews http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/fifasoccer09), I have ordered Fifa 09. They all say that Pro Evo 09 has slipped in comparison to Fifa.
It seems to have some really good features, like the 10 vs 10, Adidas Live Season, plus I like the fact that it's fully licensed. |

Adidas Live Season? Pfft....doesn't even include the Scottish league! What's the point?
Though yeah, having all the real teams from tons of leagues...cool..
Plus the Xbox Live of Winning Eleven 2008 was absolutely abysmal...unplayable sometimes...
But still...I wonder if the new one is better... |

Who in their right mind would want to play the Scottish league? it's boring enough in real life, let alone in game format!
Have you tried both of the demos? |

Ah, but when I'm manager, it won't be boring! Let's bring Messi to Hearts! |

It's when Cantona did his amazing flying Kung Fu kick into the chest of a chavvy Palace fan.
Probably one of my all time favourite sporting moments!
Messi to hearts!!! lol. True fantasy football. |

It could happen...of course, it would be Messi's younger cousin who is actually a butcher but still, would be better than most the dross we have just now! Playing Sellik today, so I'm expecting a rather poor result but hoping for the best..
Anyway, I ended up getting Fifa 09 because WE 2009 isn't out for another month on Xbox 360. Been pretty impressed by Fiferooni so far...much more challenging and slower paced - can't just steam past everyone like I've been doing for years in WE...means I need to learn how to play better, which is good. Really enjoyed playing the "Be a Pro" option so far....seems like it will be great fun. |

I picked up a copy of FIFA 09 this weekend, I'm really enjoying it. It seems to play much better than PES 2008 which I was really disappointing with.
Any of you lot play online? What's it like? I chose not to install the EA down loader so did try that yet.
There are some fantastic player made patches for FIFA 09 here http://www.soccergaming.tv/forumdisplay.php?f=208 |
