Well, needed to buy a new coat so I thought I would check out Dongdaemun as there are so many shops (yes, I know most have the same thing).

Well, I am a little bigger than the average Korean (not fat just a little muscular). So trying a jacket that fits me was impossible. Even their so called extra-large (that is the largest size they have). Tried a number of different jackets and every one was tight around the biceps and back.

But every time the shop assistant is saying looks good. I just smile. Yes, they work on commission but they will say anything to make a sale (same all over the world).

not with a sweater .. so I ask for 110 size.. NO one has it..
now I am not fat, im normal. weight 73 kilos, and stand 174cm..
there are PLENTY OF koreans who are bigger than me, taller than me! where are they getting their clothes???

There are several Big and Tall shops in Itaewon, but they seem to be really on the big side, so if you are just a bit bigger than average they might be too big.

I needed a white dress shirt last semester and went to Doota. 105 was the biggest they had. It was barely ok. I've seen some large Koreans. Where do they shop? Itaewon?

APM, which is one of the larger buildings near Doota, used to have some bigger sizes on the upper floors somewhere.

There are some shops/stalls in DongDaeMoon that they called Big Size or Big & Tall shops...I remember seeing one in Doota! They basically run bigger sizes so you could try those.

Go soon. Dongdaemoon is disappearing fast and being replaced by skyscrapers and vagina-shaped parks.

with *beep*-shaped statues

what's wrong with phallic symbols? the world's full of them

but yeah, skyscapers have moved the edge of dongdaemun by several blocks and one day the secondhand and cheap good market will go elsewhere, perhaps dispersed on a smaller scale

my boyfriend had similar problems - he has larger shoulders and neck from wrestling, so coats would fit perfectly except mentioned areas. we went to one of the skyscrapers - migliore and a couple others next to it - and after trying on literally dozens, we found a wool coat that fits well and is pretty nice looking. and yes, it was extra large. so they're there, just not easily found i suppose.

at least they told you you look nice. they told us we should give up.

also, migliore isn't really all that cheap, but you can haggle like crazy.

There's a big Marks and Spencer near Apkujong station that has all UK sizes (so up to a XL). Men's choice a bit limited (women's department huge, and up to a size 18) but good quality and reasonable price.
