What's the latest must-have accessory for an open class? ME! That's right.
Last week, my main co-teacher (who also doubles as the art teacher, and for the record her art is much better than her English). asked me whether I'd participate in her open class this (Art class). Although this is completly unrelated to English and my participation would be little more than show, I agreed without hesitation as my co-teacher has been good to me, and I'm all for building the "Jung" . When I found out was required of me, I felt quite satisfied as they are doing a class around neckties and i'll be having a dialogue with co-teacher at the start where she gives me a tie for my "birthday". 5 minutes in and out, tops. Additionally, there are few male teachers at my school, and I'm the only one who religiously wears a collared shirt (P, and VP excluded of course) so it made sense for her to ask me (and that I'm here teaching partner, seemed to make sense too.)
Fast Forward to this morning. My other co-teacher, (whom I teach after school first and second graders with) comes into my office with a huge smile. She's had a wonderful idea for open class this week. She wants me to be a part of her class (i don't know which subject, but she is a first grade home room teacher, so i can just imagine), and her idea involves me dressing up as Santa @#$%ing Claus. Needless to say, I'm not keen on the idea. I don't have a great personal relationship with her, and I find the idea of dressing up as Santa Claus for an open class somewhat insulting. At this rate I should skip dressing properly and just wear a clown suit to work.
I tried to get out of the second class without hurting feelings. I said that I have class at the same time as her open class (which is true), and she said she'd speak to the homeroom teacher and my main co-teacher to reschedule. The fact that I'm helping my main co-teacher with her open class, makes it much harder to refuse as I've set a precedent (yes, that's right...need a monkey to bring some pizzazzz to your class.. come to my office~)
Anyone else ever get roped into open classes (that were NOT english related at all?) What did you do? And did you get out of them? |

Depending on your contract, you can pull the "if I go over ___ classes per week the school has to pay extra, therefore I'm so sorry but I can't do it..." |
