Yes, and I think they are planning to start service in April this year.

From the Korea times:

When the express railway becomes fully operational between Seoul and Pusan in 2010, the travel time was expected to be cut by more than half from four and a half hours to only 1 hour and 56 minutes. However, with the addition of three more intermediate stations, it is expected to take 2 hours and 31 minutes from Seoul to Pusan even at full throttle.

2010 ? or this April?

Two and a half ain't bad though! Wonder what it will cost.

I had seen on KBS news last year that the bit as far as Daejeon would be running by December 2003. I travelled on the saemaul from Pusan to Seoul and back this week and saw the KTX being tested between Pusan and Daegu but nowhere else.

On prices, I heard it was going to be around the 50,000 won mark from Pusan to Seoul.

The websites are not terribly informative, but my students tell me that the Seoul-Daejeon section is to be running by March. I'll believe it when I see it. The section running to Busan is also hitting several snags as some local groups are still fighting the train bridge running through some ancient sites on the outskirts of Busan.

As well, Roh added more stops to the train, and this dumbarse election promise makes things even more complicated. The project engineers have pointed out that, ahem, it's not a bullet train if it stops every two minutes, and that the stops are close enough that there is a safety hazard. Maybe Roh's promise will be quietly forgotten after/if he is reelected.

I used to teach a guy who worked for the company, and kind of knew several of the foreign engineers that were brought in to work on the project. From what I hear, things are going well.

Moldy's info is right. April to Daejon. The whole thing will be done in 2010 (hahahah, only take 14 years to build 500 km of track). Peppermint your boy is feeding you some bad info. I have a friend who has been working on this thing since 1997. As of 2002 (we were talking one day) we did some quick math and figured out that they were averaging 3 meters of track contruction a day since construction began. Not bad for 1000 employees. It's a nightmare.
