What kind of jobs can Koreans get on a working holiday? How does one go about finding jobs? Are there any jobs available for those who speak English at an intermediate level? Does anyone know how I can obtain information about this? Point me in the direction of a website ect...

Thanks.

ANy job is ok, but most get work in Korean restaurants. If her English is only intermediate, that will be her best (and close to only) option. She might get a job folding or where English isn't needed as much.

Don't tell it to her like that though, cause I met a few in Vancouver who got half decent jobs with lower English. It's just really hard.

What she can get will largely depend on where s/he goes.

With the recession happening it may be very difficult to get a job in lower Ontario or BC.

If they head for Alberta there is still a LARGE labor shortage and lots of options in the service sector - every shop at WEM has a "help wanted" sign in the window and they will take just about anyone with a SIN card and a pulse.

The HRDC (government job bank) has posted 449 new jobs in the Edmonton area in the last 48 hours (not including the weekend). Searches returned similar results for for other areas in Alberta.

By comparison there were only 216 jobs posted in the entire greater Vancouver region and only 169 in the Greater Toronto Area in the same time frame.

I would stick to the Vancouver area. Right now with the olympics coming in to town there are a few High paying/low skilled construction type jobs. In Edmonton aswell. Both cities were booming (not sure now with the financial problems)

There is always tim hortons to get some true canadian culture Razz .

Most likely a job in the service sector (ie. fast food), or construction. Like someone mentioned before, it's possible to get a good white-collar job, but the chances are very slim. Unless she has connections. Easiest is getting a job at some place with a lot of Korean or asian customers, like a restaurant.

I've known a few Koreans with unrealistic expectations of the kinds of jobs they think they'd get. You should set her straight.

Come to BC and Look for something in and around the Lougheed Mall area of Coquitlam and Burnaby. There is a huge Korean population there including numerous businesses. They might be able to give someone a hand there.
