Can anyone help me with some ideas for a High School speaking class?
I have a class for an hour each day with 15 students. Apart from one or two students most of them struggle to form a simple sentence. I have no guidance as to the content of the lessons from anyone at the school.
I teach each class for a month, and I have already taught two different classes. Apart from on one or two occasions I have never hit on a winning formula to keep them occupied. Role plays get repetetive, class surveys are dull, they can't debate any issue as they don't have the ability and they can't read news articles as they don't understand. They always want to play games (which I find strange for 18 year olds) but I don't know any that are appropriate for their age group.
To be perfectly honest I am considering resignation. This an extra job for me that adds two hours to my working day. The extra money is good but I am constantly exhausted. If the classes were going well I would probably stick it out. But they're not.
Any help would be much appreciated. |

Try This Textbook with many adaptable activities for the textbook.
See the Prof. Development page on EFL Classroom 2.0 for the videos that show how to instruct many of these activities.
Try Korean specific activities. Using this cultural filter will provide a lot of success for students as they can focus on the language and not a lot of the other cultural stuff that we as teachers don't realize they are dealing with in our lessons.....
Lots of Korean appropriate stuff in our Korean folders. http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=d69447247921c717b4e0c5efb3960d790ce7080d1981ef53
or on EFL Classroom's Resources area...
Good luck.

PS. Look at my "Lessons in a Can." All have instant materials for you to use and most appropriate for H.S. because they have a lot of great video or audio content.... Find this on the Site Map. |
