Well, it finally happened. My 360 has, after a year and a half, started flashing the red ring of death and refusing to switch on for more than 60 seconds at a time
Does anyone know where I can get it serviced/ replaced? Is there somewhere in Yongsan that I can just drop it off? |

What's with the 360? Why do so many die? I have played the 360, I am no game expert, it's not any better or worse than my PS3. So I am not trying to say they suck or anything. But, what's the common problem? |

I just had mine done a month ago or so. If you bought it here you can have it mailed to a Korean service site. If it's a North American one like mine was you have to mail it to Japan. The turnaround time was a week, that's the good news. good luck........ |

Every time I hear about this occurrence it makes me think of the song by Wall Of Voodoo - Ring Of Fire. I'm glad I've never encountered the problem but, it would be nice to get a brand new system even though mine isn't that old. |

My brother's 360 didn't last much longer than a year either. I think the old batch of 360 put out too much heat and it slowly cooked the electronics in the box. I think Microsoft improved the heating dissipation so the new batches will last longer, hopefully. |

Do a search on the forums for the phone number in korea. Funny thing is that the phone number ONLY works when using a cell phone, really strange. I did get an English speaking customer service representative and was impressed by how well they answered the questions and took care of processing my order. The U.S. customer service rep I spoke with the night before was telling me I would have to ship it all the way back to the U.S. but luckily the Korean rep told me no I could just courier it to Japan. I literally had it back in just after a week. The good news is that it's been running fine since then. |

High intensity 3D gaming rigs produce a ton of heat & need proper ventilation. I burned out my 8800GTX after nearly 2 years of nonstop gaming and found that it just could not handle the heat anymore. With less than 45days left on warranty, it's being serviced for the 3rd time to solve the overheating problems.
For gaming consoles...this is a particularily larger problem. DUST and LINT can get in your vent ports and clog up and lower your airflow througth your gaming console. Alot of people who smoke in their places and play games notice this as well. If you're going to remove the cooling air, your console will overheat and freeze up and shutdown as a preventative measure to keep you from frying your chipsets.
I would suggest you first blow a crapload of air to remove any dust or blockage from your vents and in your console. Keep it clean andmake sure the air flows where you keep it. We've had computers in this school that crashed all the time...but after removing the case you an see the heatsinks were literally blocked with years of dust/lint that gathered up (like you see from an air filter whe you open it, except the high speed fans do this much faster).
Try that first...if that fails...try playing with the plastic case off to let the heat dissipate faster. If that fails..then take it for servicing. However, in many cases....this can be easily solved by keeping your place clean and blowing air to clear up the air heat vents every month.

00368 440 0090 :- a number of options ( in korean) but eventually you get through to an english speaker and from there the process is easy.
(cell phone only - no luck using a land-line)
They require the serial number and then they will email you instructions on where to send the console. I was given a choice of repair or replacement - took replacement and had it delivered a week later.
No charge.

Thanks for the help, folks. I tracked down the number from sojokettle's old post on ESLcafe and spoke to someone at customer service yesterday. They were most helpful and I should be getting a courier to remove my $300 doorstop later today. |
