Any suggestions on a fun activity that would encourage students to speak using idioms? Middle school level. Any help would be appreciated.

Can You Believe It? Books 1-3. I have used them for three years for various levels and they are great. Take a look at them and PM me for lesson plans if you decide to use them.

Create a Scripted Role-Play that respects their language level and interests( i.e. games, sports etc.) and include a few idioms.

1. Discuss the topic (i.e games,sports etc.).

2. Demonstrate the Scripted Role-Play using a pre-audiotaped version (get a friend to be the second person) or use a co-teacher in the classroom.

3. Distribute the Scripted Role Plays (with idioms highlighted).

4. Have them listen again.

5. Have the students come up with ideas (in groups) as to the meaning of each idiom. Emphasize them to use the context (obviously choose appropate languate).

6. Discuss ideas and provide correction.

7. Have the learners read the Scripted Role-Play in partners.
