for those of you in the seoul/bundang area, can anyone recommend a great masseuse?? i've got some chronic problems with tension in my back and need to get it sorted out - the sports massages in korea just don't cut it (since most places don't have staff trained in proper massage therapy).
hot stone, swedish, deep tissue, shiatsu....where do you go?!
cheers. |

The "NOW sports clinic" by Seohyun station has physio therapists that can probably help you and the fee is CHEAP if you have insurance.
W3500 for the doctor's referral (back and spine clinic in the same place) and 3000-5000 won per visit for the physio.

Go see the chiropractor as massage can only give relief for a short while. Muscles move bones and the nervous system controls muscles. Chiropractors work on the nervous system and unless it is changed the muscles will just kep going back to tense.
If you don't like chiroprators then have acupuncture. If you see a chiropractor make sure that he was trained in the west. Any Koreans saying that they trained in chiropractic in Korea are not telling the truth. |

I had blind men massages in Shanghai and swear by them - though I haven't seen any in this neck of the woods in Korea;
a really good one can re-work things (similar to kneading)(hip problem disappeared) and after a few visits have you feeling normal;
personally I would stay away from chiropractors - I hear how relief might be found for a moment but recurrs and is sometimes made worse. |

chiross always have a plan to fix you good as new. Usually that plan is coming in two times a week for the rest of your life.
My Gen. Practicioner is a D.O. and was , as such, given the same training as a chiro in addition to her real docter school. She's great but more often than not will send me for massage therapy instead of giving me an adjustment.
It's funny when your doctor says something to the effect of being able to prescribe pills for something but would rather I just go to a masseuse. |

Chiropractors spend 5 years studying. Just because your G.P. went to a two day course on manipulation does not mean she knows chiropractic. Actually her little knowledge is more dangerous then none at all.
I am a chiropractor and I am not looking for your business as I don't practice here in Korea. We don't need to see you for the rest of your life. If you have neglected your health for years and drink a lot it will take a few visits. One visit is better than nothing.
Massage cannot have long lasting effects because the problem is not in the muscles. The symptom is in the muscles. If you want to be exact the cause is in the tension in the nerves-tense nerves cause tense muscles.
In order to have a long term effect the nervous system needs to be dealt with.
I love people who know very little about the subject who have such strong opinions.
ie. the guy who drinks and smokes and comes to the chiropractor for the one shot wounder just like the wounder pill he asks the Dr. for.
Then he bitches that it takes more than one visit.
Health is a habit and there is no quick fix. If you have problems your body needs intervention and your lifestyle needs changes.
Treating the symptoms never works. Figure out the cause and eliminate that from your life.
Be very careful of any G.P's who clain to know chiropractic. Unless there is a chiropractic degree from the states or Australia on their wall they only did a weekend course.
They will do gross manipulations like putting their knee in your back or twisting your whole head. Dangerous stuff manipulations are.
Chiropractors don't manipulate they adjust specific vertebrae.
Acupuncture can be good if you find a Dr. who trained in that as his major. Once again watch out for G.P.'s who just did a weekend course in acupuncture.
I here Phillip Yoo in Seoul is a properly trained chiro.
One of the biggest jokes is that people think blind people have some natural healing abilities. Just because they have increased senses doesn't mean that they are natural healers. |

What does worked mean-your symptom went away? Quite often the body is asking for help and the practitioner just shuts it up or changes the pattern. The symptom changing has little to do with a change in health. |

I need the same.....have back and neck pain. I used to go regularly for thai massage in bangkok and it worked wonders. I just had a 'massage' at the sauna and my back is bruised....seriously....it was the not a massage in any way, shape or form.
Can anyone recommend a place for a good massage in Seoul?....and not the relaxing spa type...... |
