Congratulations to all the Obama supporters out there.
Obama downplayed the race issue throughout the campaign, however it is not only an overwhelming theme tonight, it seems to be the only thing they are talking about. My question is, does this put the race ball in the African American court? Where do we go from here? There is no more glass ceiling, America has validated the promise that all can achieve if they are industrious and dedicated not just privileged and white. |

This should help undermine their ages-old victim syndrome. To use leftist vocabulary: African-Americans have been complicit in the American govt and its doings, at all levels, federal, state, and local, since the late-1960s. Now an African-American has won the nation's highest office, proving that alleged persisting barriers do not exist.
Where will we go from here? Good question. Forward and less divisiveness and Rev. J. Wright-style poison in the discourse, I should hope. Too soon to tell. |

Kudos to America for electing a black president. It's not the 'end of racism' of course, but it really shows that The US is a pretty tolerant society and it should really be applauded for this.
Now how about a woman president? Palin 2012?  |

I have a feeling that IF Obama is elected twice...and Joe Biden seeks the office in 2016, he might be facing Hiliary Rodham Clinton.
Sarah Palin will never make it through the Republican field in 2012. |

J. Biden will be seventy-four years old or so in 2016. Given the "old man" treatment your side gave our seventy-two-year-old J. McCain, I find this scenario unlikely. |

Racism will always exist on an individual level, but does this election put an end to the victimization generation? Does the responsibility for peoples' failure fall on them as much as Obama's success is a credit to his hard work and effort? |

| Remember how much Republicans wanted Hilary to run as the candidate this year? I want Palin to run in 2012 twice as much. Jumpin the gun here obviously, but that would guarantee another 4 years for Obama. |

The economy is going to get so bad that none of these people we're talking about will have a chance in 2012.
But let's enjoy the moment we have right now.
The only good thing Bush has done for America in his whole presidency is to be so shitty that it made Americans somewhat colorblind of the person running against the Republican nominee. It's great that America has finally progressed enough to elect a black man as President. Thank you, Bush. |

One could also say it proves that affirmative action works. True, one might make the case that it is no longer necessary when based purely on race - but such programs can be adapted to promote advancement based on other social class markers, and society as a whole will be better off. Quite likely, they will.
What you cannot make a case for is to say that America is not better off today because it is possible for there to BE a President Barack Hussein Obama, not when for so much of American history it simply was not. To ignore the role of affirmative action programs in making this country the way it is now would be a gross misapprehension of reality. |
