Get ready guys.

My prediction right here... Obama will remove the $85,000 tax exemption on your overseas income.

Are you an idiot?

The IRS is going to want their money in US $ not Korean won. The exchange rate hasn't been to good if you haven't noticed.

So how in the heck would the Irational Rates of Sums (IRS) know you were being paid by someone else in another country? You would simply be an unemployed blip in the American system. I'm sure the over paid who make more than $85,000 a year outside of the states do not report all capital gains to the IRS. International business and offshoring finance and other business practices has been a tax evasion shelter for many years to rich individuals and their companies they head. I wouldn't pay tax if I'm already paying tax in another country and especially the fact that I couldn't even get a $30,000 a year job with a college degree unless going to New York or Chicago to work 60 hours a week while still barely getting by in an expensive market.

I can see it now:

Ring Ring... Hello, Mr. Hagwon Director? This is the IRS. We're calling because we need you to fill out a W-2 form and submit it to us so that we have evidence of Foreign Teacher's income for the past year.

We all know how Koreans get right on top of these things. Rolling Eyes

I know I was trying in the wrong place at the wrong time without a car. St. Louis, Missouri by city bus doesn't get you very far past $8/hour jobs. St. Louis was a great job market back in grandpas day 40 to 50 years ago when he built McDonnell Douglas commercial aircraft there, but today it sucks. I'm sure in other parts of America with a car, I can go get with a little mojo and achieve something in this life. I look forward to doing just that when I decide to return. I most likely won't be returning to the Midwest to live and definitely not without a car. Having come from a rough situation of funk, this Korea gig is great, but it's just not home. Believe it or not, this apartment I'm in is actually the nicest I've ever had and the money is the best I've seen in 8 years. While I love to travel, I don't like to constantly be away for so long. We have jobs and a new president all about redefining what the USA is and things are looking up. Smile

I lucked out on the taxes, this is the one year I'm completely tax free. If I stay next year, then I might pay a rock bottom 3.5%. Too bad this job is not in a western country...

Why should we take your prediction as more than just a paranoid fantasy based on your antipathy?

So, you are going to take all your saving/earnings and take it to the US and tell the IRS, "Hey, I just found it on my doorstep, I swear!"

Can't imagine this would affect me while I'm in Korea. You must be a rich man if you're worried about it. Laughing

Glad you brought this up. But you forgot to mention that Obama is Muslim, was born in another country (he has never produced his birth certificate), wants to change the American flag, is a socialist, and routinely pals around with terrorists --both international and domestic.

You waited too long to start this new rumor though, eh? The toothpaste is already out of the tube.

Nice prediction. I'll believe it when I see it. I'm sure that isn't on the top of his agenda.
