I've met the main organizers, and I think they're very sincere in their efforts to help the plight of poor animals in Korea.

Here's from a message sent out by Tim Vasudeva ...

Hi all As many of you would know, the Daejeon shelter is finally closing and we have to move Mrs Jung's dogs to another location. In addition, the other shelter we help regularly with adoptions and fostering (the Samsong shelter in Ilsan) is also being evicted by their landlord.

We have secured some land in Yangju (north of Seoul) and we will be moving the remaining 75 dogs from Daejeon and 230 dogs (and 20 cats) from Ilsan to Yangju in late November.

This will be an expensive exercise (we estimate it will cost around 10 million won to move all 300 dogs and another 10 million won to construct a basic shelter for them on the new land) so to help us finance the move we will be holding our third shelter fundraiser on Friday next week (the 7th of November) at Stompers Bar in Itaewon (up the Itaewon Hill, next to Polly's Kettle). Attached is a flyer for the event with more information (and for anyone who might care to print some out and put them up somewhere in your area Smile

The night starts at 7.30pm - music stars from 9.30pm: bands The Pines and Firefly will be playing, as will Ryan Warner and comedian Brian Aylward.

There will be great raffle prizes on the night, including a DVD player, an MP3 player, a 100,000 won dinner voucher from Sortinos Italian restaurant (and heaps of other stuff).

For anyone who hasn't see either of the shelters (or hasn't visited lately) please see the below pictures and videos from the Animal Rescue Korea website:

Videos of the Daejeon shelter from June 07, February 08 and September 08 (see the difference a few adoptions can make!)

We would love to see you all next Friday night Smile Anyone who needs more information, please email me.

Cheers,
Tim

Just to add a bit to this.
As well as new bands, The Pines and Firefly, there's an acoustic set from Ryan Warner, and a routine from stand-up Brian Aylward. All local talent!

The line-up is something like this.

Ryan - 945pm

Brian - 1030

The Pines - 11pm

FireFly - 12am - - -

It should be a great night.

Most of the stuff is scheduled past my bedtime (I'm an old geezer... Surprised )

I'll try to make at least a cameo appearance, though (and maybe sign a few autographs ... Cool )

Directions from Itaewon subway station? "Up the hill" can mean a lot of things.

I found better directions in this Korea Times article...

To get to Ole Stompers, leave Itaewon station, line 6, via exit 3. Turn right at the fire station and left at the first corner. Ole Stompers is at the top of the hill on the left.

Well, I might as well post the whole article ...

Rock Bar to Host Animal Shelter Fundraiser

By John Redmond
Contributing writer

Stories of pets being abandoned or treated poorly are common worldwide and it is often the work of volunteers that results in forming animal shelters and support networks.

Amid soaring rental prices, it has become something of an issue and there is no guarantee that leases will be renewed.

Such was the case with a shelter in Daejeon, which prompted volunteers to hold a benefit gig to raise much-needed funds for relocation.

Ole Stompers Rock Spot in Itaewon will host an Animal Shelter Fundraiser gig Friday starting at 9:30 p.m., featuring prizes, live bands and stand up comedy.

The line-up will include music by Ryan Warner, the Pines and Firefly, with comedy from Brian Aylward.

The animal shelter in Daejeon is privately run by a Miss Kim and is home to some 73 dogs.

Volunteer Maggie O'Brien informed The Korea Times that `` It is also a non-kill shelter. She has all kinds of dogs there ― lots of jindos, a German shepherd, lots of cocker spaniels... Few people know about it ― and she only had 3 adoptions last year.''

Volunteers will move the remaining 220 dogs and about 15 cats from a shelter in Samseong-dong, Seoul to a new location as soon as possible. `` We found the Samseong shelter while we were searching for a place for the Daejeon dogs,'' Maggie said.

`` We have managed to find homes for about 10 of her dogs and three of her cats so far,'' she continued, adding that some volunteers who have left Korea are actually finding homes for dogs in Canada.

The money raised will be used to pay moving costs.

The entrance fee for the benefit will be 5,000 won. Prizes will include a DVD player with speakers and MP3 players.

To get to Ole Stompers, leave Itaewon station, line 6, via exit 3. Turn right at the fire station and left at the first corner. Ole Stompers is at the top of the hill on the left.

It's on the infamous "Hooker Hill"... Stompers is easy to find... Go to the huge cement stairway next to Rocky Mountain Tavern, walk up to the top and turn right, it's just a few steps from there.

If you don't know where RMT is... It's on the main Itaewon street on the south side a few blocks east of the Hamilton Hotel... Bring your compass or ask a gringo on the street and you'll find it with ease.

You haven't experienced all of "Sparkling Korea" until you've strolled down "Hooker Hill" after a few of Stompers famous Teq-Meq specials.
