Hi all, this is my first post here so if this is the wrong place or has been asked before Im sorry.

Im currently in the UK but have decided to go to Korea to work. I used to teach in Japan, and as a result have a few japanese electronic products.

My question is - will Japanese plugs fit Korean power sockets or will an adapter be needed?

I dont have to worry about the voltage difference as most of the devices come with a 100-250V range and 50/60hz so its just will they physically fit which is the problem.

I know UK plugs wont fit but have the same voltage so an adapter is all thats needed, thats no problem just the japanese electronics worrying me.

Thanks a lot in advance!

You'll need a plug adapter. They cost about 50 cents.

What is the origin of those big ugly plugs? In Japan, while their power is a bit different, they use the same plug as North America. Was this a post-WWII change over and Korea stuck with Japanese colonial era plugs?

All the sockets I've seen here are the deep, round schuko Ttypes:

All the plugs I've seen are the flat two-round-prongs types:

Try the camera shops. They usually have jars of them. Not expensive either.

Thanks for the tips

For the guy who was also looking I dug this up -

Seeing as Japan and the USA use the same plugs, technically speaking a USA to korea adapter should work fine on a Japanese product.

And seeing how some European plugs are the same as Korea (as this site states - http://www.adaptelec.com/index.php?main_page=document_general_info&products_id=159 ) Then a USA to Europe adaptor should also technically work

I found this which seems to match both ends - http://www.roamingfox.co.uk/USA-to-Europe-Travel-Adapter-pr-16294.html - it inputs the Amercian (and therefor Japanese) and outputs European two pin (Which matchs Korean) to plug into the wall.

This should solve a few problems I hope.
