Well, the subject explains it all. Looking for a decent, used ipod touch (8G/16G) OR a comparitive PMP player, max i can pay is KRW200k. Please PM if you have the above or email on '[email protected]'. Pictures will be appreciated.
For the techies: The only drawback i see with the ipod is that i can not use it as an E-book reader, please suggest something better in the said price range, not really a gadget guy.
Thanks in advance |

Hey Zakuta, check this forum out. There seems to be a few players that me and a few others have found. One, in particular, on gmarket seems really up your alley. Looks almost identical to the ipod touch. It even has an ebook reader and I think you can use an 8gb card in it. I don't think it can connect to the internet though, and Im not sure what other kind of apps you can install on it. Its very reasonably priced though. Check it out.

aofgark31, thanks a lot for the info, it opens up lots more options. I think i ignored the dictionary part.
However, while searching for the same i came across this http://www.levnos.com/board/bbs.php?table=product_le&query=view&uid=16&p=1
and it really caught my attention. Pretty inexpensive (80,000) but i don't think i can say a lot about the quality. Would appreciate if any techie can view the web page and provide some valued feedback.
Thanks a lot! |

And hopefully we have a techie who can read Korean in the house. That would be really helpful as well. Yeah, I looked at that one you sent me the link to before. It's nice too. |

Hey there zakuta,
I took a look at the page and it looks like you have the right assessment. It's inexpensive but it looks like it can do a lot. While it of course is suppose to look like the ipod touch. It's probably pretty far from the hardware that is found on an apple itouch. If your looking for a cool touch screen input interface, i would look elsewhere. It has a stylus (booo).
You may have to deal with a somewhat unique way to put your media on this machine, but it could turn out to be painless and quick (it does have usb2 compatibility). I think this device will last you around 1.5 years and that's if you take decent care of it. It's probably really light and feels flimsy. It made me laugh how many pictures they had on the advertisement. Almost seems like they are overcompensating with all the places you can take it and nicely taken pictures.
If your looking to get a little media device that last you for the year on the subway and what not, go for it. If you want something you might be able to resell in two years for some change in the pocket, go with the touch. Not even the new one but a refurb one or from someone who upgraded to ipod touch 2.0.
I don't want to totally knock it, but I think it is a smidgen better than the quality of pmp you can win in those Korean crane games, and for 80,000, it's not worth it to me. It may be right for some, but I am oddly addicted to technology and its warm glowing transistors and capacitors
That's my two cents, but I also have dwindled a good chunk of my life away messing around with the ipod touch and it's firmware.
Cheers! |

I'm curious if other companies are adding web browser functions on there pmp/mp3 players like the itouch. I'd love to see that function that's cheaper than the Itouch. |

Babo. This is nice. What are the specs and capabilities? And yeah, Dazzed, I agree with you about the web browsing. I wonder if anyone knows of one with some wi-fi capabilties. Please holla at this forum! I might just buckle and get an i-touch. I could put language programs on there, right? Haven't really looked into it but if anyone knows anything that would be helpful please let us know. Thanks!! |

I use my iPod touch every day. The ability to browse the web, send/receive email, and show off photos from the weekend means that I don't have to lug my laptop into work. I'm not sure what type of language software you want for the touch. I have a korean phrasebook type program installed that can help get me through most situations (taxis, restaurant, simple banking, getting directions etc.). Hangul keyboard can be used. It comes with the software and it works well. I would suggest buying the new one, it is alot cheaper than the first generation of iPod touches, and has an external volume control.
Good luck! keep us posted on what you decide. |

You know Dude, I really appreciate your response. I think I may just buckle down and get a Touch. I mean, what you've told me so far kind of just increases my desire to have one of these wicked little toys. Do you know the retail price right now? Any ideas for the best place to buy? Itaewon? Yongsan? |

And the korean phrasebook program seems to be a really helpful tool as well. Its probably skys the limit with the programs that you can put on there right? |

thanks for the valued info everyone, still making up my mind.
aofgark31, the link you sent is too tempting, might as well buy it tomorrow. But somehow i still feel that only the ipod touch will end up as 'value-for-money', others might cause a problem or two. Well hats-off to Steve Jobs, i guess this is the power of branding.
The rational purchase will probably take place over the weekend, i am also considering iphone 3G as an option if a buddy is flying over home on Christmas, might as well buy it as it will be handy whenever i leave Korea ! Rear chance for that though, will probably end up on i-touch or some PMP!
Thanks again everyone, will update once i purchase!! |
