Just finished my E2 visa. Now I'm home for a few weeks. Am planning to do an English camp from mid-December to the end of January.

It will be a C4 visa. My parents called the police station a few weeks ago, and they obliged to send a letter saying that there were no outstanding warrants for my arrest, essentially. The other police station made sure to mention how I was arrested ten years ago for being a drunk high schooler on a Friday night.

Not sure either of these look very official. They're just letters from a police station in a small town in New Hampshire. Should I be asking for a specific, universally accepted form? Or will one of these letters suffice, IF I get it notarized/apostilled/whatever.

Which brings me to my next question... do I have to go to a separate government building to get it apostilled/apostilized or whatever? Does it have to be a state building in New Hampshire, or can I get it done in New York City (I am in New York right now)??

And since I'm in New York, would it be easier to just get the national/FBI check???

Can someone explain this to me??

Get both letters notarized and apostilled. If you got the letters from New Hampshire, pretty sure you have to get them notarized and apostilled from the Dept. of State in New Hampshire.

The FBI check takes like 3 months or something, so don't do it, you don't have enough time.

Also, what do you mean you are 'finished' with your E2 visa...you have all the materials? You actually, physically have it in your passport? If you have it (the actual visa from the consulate), then you should've already handed in a CBC, and therefore gone through this process already.

Thanks for responding. By 'finishing' my E2 I only meant I just finished my first E2 year-long contract.

Now I have to get my C4 contract. I have my sealed transcripts, original diploma, valid passport, resume, and the paperwork they are supposed to send me (invitation to work, application) is on its way.

So again, I'm really just focusing on the criminal background check. Have a letter from the police station saying I have no outstanding warrants or anything. Just not sure where to take it to get it apostillized. Can't believe this information is so hard to find!!

Ah ok got it. For the apostille, I was in New York to get it and this is what I did: got it notarized by a notary public. Went to the County Clerk's office for the county the notary was authorized in. Got a notary signature confirmation. Went to the New York State Dept. Got an apostille. Took me about an hour (and I had to run to Brooklyn to get the notary confirmation).

If the forms are from New Hampshire, you'll need a notary from there to do it, and you'll need to go to the Dept. of State there as well.

Got it. Thanks. Guess I'll just have to wait until I'm back in NH for a few weeks...

Where in New York are you from? I just got back from living in Gwangju for the last year... I wonder if we met.

Well, like so many things having it notarized in the same state could be at the discretion of the individual at the Consulate.

I had my CRC done in Nova Scotia and notarized in Ontario and apostilled at the Toronto Consulate. No problems thus far... maybe there will be with the immigration office in Korea though...

Monkey, that wouldn't fly in the U.S. A lot of notary publics will be shy about notarizing a police document, its always best to get the desk cop to notarize it for you (so that they can notarize the validity of the document, rather than saying that it's an exact copy). The real problem why your approach wouldn't work in the states though, is because notary's are state-specific, and apostilles are issued by the state to verify that the notary license they issued to the notary public you used is valid.

Tom, If you can get your bank's notary public in NY to notarize the document, then you'd use be able to/need to get a NY state apostille.

When you say apostilled at the Toronto Consulate do you mean notarized? Canada didn't sign onto the aposoloation agreement that all the other countries did. I am confused

Actually notaries are county specific, not state specific. I just want to clear that up for people who are confused.

If you know someone in New York who is a notary, they could do it for you.... Wink

I guess I want to know this too. I got my CRC done at Winnipeg Police Service, and it's got an authentication sticker, and it's signed/dated at the bottom.

Do I still have to get something else done to it, from somewhere else?
