I think with the closing of the red light districts in Seoul, we will begin to see more and more erosion of Korean culture.

After being here 2 years, I have realized that prostitution is the fdark cloud that overs hugely over Korean culture that no one talks about.

But one you get a Korean girlfriend and make a handful of friends you begin to see the HUGE role prostitution plays in this culture.

One thing ive noticed with Korean gf's is that they would get angry and even crazy when i said i wanted to go on an night out with the boys and this would infuriate me. But then, I went for a night out with the Korean boys and I could understand her suspicion. The night out with the Korean boys consisted of drinking tons of soju in a HOF the goin to a 노래빠 (not bang) ordering some agashi's then the one's would could still stand went to anma's or barber shop's.

After I saw this, i confroted my gf and actually invited her on a night out and she saw that this was not really a night out with the boys for me and she calmed down a bit.

I dont have a huge problem with prostitution, in fact I think most guys who cause big problems are the guys who dont routinely get sex. SO the crackdown on prostitution IMO will make this place much more dangerous, because 90% of the male population will not me sexually satisfied anymore.

Korea has a lot of sexual tension and it's releases are flowing through the wrong channels. There are some logical reasons for it:

A) Koreans don't have sex with their wives or husbands outside of baby making.
B) This is largely caused by working crazy long hours or
C) it is caused by people get married for terrible reasons (ie: they were made to).
D) Wives turn a blind eye to their husband's infidelity as a selfless act, men tend to keep their infidelities from the wives. It also can go the other way.

...and then you have E, which is a consequence of the former.

I think the erosion of Korean culture you were talking about is a good thing. Granted, there are things I like about Korean culture, but like every culture in the world, it isn't perfect. Having an alternative to the above, either a Western alternative or some kind of hybrid would be nice.

People should marry people they love and couples should have time to spend together. If that happened, the amount of prostitutes would drop to the same levels we have back home.

Strangely enough, I've never seen a prostitute in Korea outside of Itaewon.

Are you for real, maybe you don't see the prostitutes, meaning u havent walked into the hundreds of very small or also very large red light districts around here, they are everywhere, in fact there is one across Anyang Station and used to be a HUGE one in Suwon, the small one's are kicking around everywhere.

But every street still have an 안마, massage parlour, barber shops, noraebba's, room salons, etc etc etc.

There is FAR less prostitution in Itaewon then there is in the rest of Korea.

Never seen a *beep* outside of Itaewon?

Read the news.

Read the anma signs.

2 barber poles.

Suwon, Bupyeong, yes, Itaewon have areas; at least Suwon had an area.

I hope the cops keep going with this-in principle I don't have a problem with whores, but to the OP's point re his girlfriend. That, and more spousal abuse will continue when adjosshi can slap wifey around and go get a massageee any night of the week instead of maturing emotionally and socially as a real human being.

If you ever go exploring on foot or bike...or scooter...you'll start to run into a lot.

Suwon Station, Hwaseon Fortress, Anyang Station, Geumjeong Station, Yongsan Station, Gwangmyeong Station, Cheongyangyi Station.
These areas all have thriving red light districts that you can see very openly. You have to be a complete idiot to not notice these places.

Then, add in all the places in the drinking areas........the drinking area around Beomgye in Anyang probably has 100 places alone.......Suwon...both Yongtong and Ingyedong are stacked full.

You have to be a complete idiot to not notice these places.

I've never seen an obvious prostitute, doesn't mean I haven't seen the "places".

Excuse me, but I'm not the sort of person who goes looking for these kind of things Rolling Eyes

When I say I saw prostitutes in Itaewon, I mean, they were cruising the streets looking for money. Or they opened the door propositioning people who walked by. I was going to Whatthebook! once and had a lady throw a door open and try to talk me into going inside.

You don't see that in other places. Usually it's underground and out of sight sparing the neon 안마 signs that blend in as well as PC방s or 노래방s.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Prostitution should be legalized the world over. Because whether it's legal or illegal, it will still occur no matter how hard the moral authority cracks down. There will always be women/men willing to sell their bodies to make some money and there will always be willing customers as well as pimps looking to capitalize on that. Vicious cycle. But can't be stopped.

Personally, I'd never pay for sexual services - never have and never will. I've been to my fair share of stripper joints in Vegas, room salons here in Seoul, but it's never gone beyond a lap dance or a pinch and a squeeze here and there. (Got sloshed off whiskey at a room salon and this hot babe was all over me, so I grabbed her boob. So shoot me.) But I know plenty of guys both here and back home who have paid for sex. And contrary to popular belief, most of them weren't so ugly or revolting that they had to pay for it. Face it. Men are horny pigs. Twisted Evil

Korean men of all ages have no game, no rapport, no aplomb. So
for the most part they are terminally unable to attract the opposite
sex in any way other than purchasing it. And there is much down time before Mommy coerces or negotiates a spouse for them. Hence the
plethora of pay for play outlets here.
