Hey, can anyone tell me about the availability of renting snowboards in the 162 length range and boots US size 13ish at korean ski resorts? Also, if anyone has any overall info about the slopes it would be appreciated. Amount of snow, quality, crowd factor, etc.
Thanks |

162 length should be doable but size 13ish I am not sure - they may stock them at the resorts but only have a limited amount. Some of the resorts have long slopes but most a shortish.
I have only snowboarded in Korea. The amount of snow I have experienced here is very limited. Meaning, when you fall down, it's hard. Also, the wind factor here causes the soft freshly laid snow to be blown away. So, in many circumstances you come across ice patches up and down the slopes.
Crowds? Look outside your apartment window. Do you see a crowd? I bet you do. Now, that is also on the slopes. The resorts close to Seoul get extremely crowded, especially in the afternoon session. So sometimes it's best to go to the ones further away. But be away, during ski/board season, I have sat on a bus for almost 7 hours getting back from Yongpyeong resort. It took 2 1/2 hours to get there mind you.
Finally, you know the way Koreans drive and walk. They have no comprehension of what is around them. They don't look. Well, the same is true on the slopes here. I have been told that such actions would not be tolerated on the slopes in Japan. The amount of people hurting themselves or others is amazing.
So, you really have to be aware of what is going on around you because no one else is. |

Weekdays... it's all about the weekdays. If you can get to a resort M-F you will have a good time. No waiting and plenty of space. Weekends are generally packed.
Youngpyoung is the best. They've got season passes with or without the bus from Seoul.

You can find 13s at the resort I board at and it's one of the smallest resorts in all of Korea.
Too bad I wear 15s and had to order them from abroad. |

Keep in mind Yongpyong was pretty bad last year. Nearly every time I went it was covered in ice, with branches and rocks protruding out from the snow. I have two big gashes in my board from branches that I rode over. The good part about Yongpyong though is that they have decent transportation from Seoul and Gyeonggido, and it's one of the largest resorts in Korea. |

Can't help you big boy (OP). Don't know about rentals b/c I ride my own gear. You can find shops at Hakdong station (up the hill from the exits), but don't know about rentals.
I'm here to say Yongpyeong SUCKS. They were in the news 2 years ago for being a "contender" for the 2012 winter Olympics. Contender my ass. They SUUUUUUCK. As xCustomx said, ALL ICE. I'll be at High One this year, unless I take a short trip to Phoenix Park from Seoul. |
