I received this from one one of my Korean newsgroups. It says VSS check should not be used for employment purposes ( REF: E2-visa). It use is to be restricted and the Govt has informed The Korean Ministry of Justice. The M.O.J. said they will require it as part of the E2 visa process.

Has anybody else heard of this?

Here is the following text:

Following from our conversation of this morning, I wish to advise you
on the status of the E-2 visa issuance problem for Canadian citizens.
This information can be shared with other Canadian citizens as you
see appropriate.

The Embassy is aware of the problem and has been working with
the MoJ to resolve the situation.

The Korean authorities are still requiring the submission of a
VS check as a condition of E-2 visa issuance.
*
As per the Canadian Criminal Records Act, approved use of a VS
check is very limited and restricted.
*
VS checks are not approved for use by foreign authorities.
Korean authorities have been made aware of this fact.
*
Canada police authorities may not legally conduct a VS check for
the purposes of teaching English in Korea.
*
The Korean MoJ has recently granted Canadian citizens a three
month grace period to obtain their VS check.
*
Canadian citizens may lodge complaints to the MoJ at:

I'm assuming VS is vulnerable sector search.

I did mine with the RCMP on Sept 22nd with no problems. Guess I got lucky!

Will it still be accepted by immigration though? I sent my documents on Monday.

I got mine with my VSS last week, no problems. I went through my local police station so the issue might be with the RCMP process.

The way I understand it is the Cdn Gov't. doesn't want to be VSS check. They state that it is not to be used for purposes such as getting an E2 visa.

They also say the police should not be doing this for the purpose of getting an E2 visa.

If they stop the submitting the VSS check. Will the Korean govt. stop demanding it.

If the Canadian and Korean Govt. do not reach a solution, then no Canadians will be able to get a VSS.

Not having the VSS, we will not be able to get E2 visas.

The day will come when there might not be anymore Canadians teaching in Korea.

You can get it without problem from the Winnipeg Police Service. Go to their website, print the form and send it in with two pieces of photocopied ID. They will even send it to Korea for you. It takes 10 days to process plus mail time. If you want the VSS check done, just check the box. I think it was $33 dollars. Much, much faster than RCMP and you don't need fingerprints.

I just had mine done in October with the VSS check. I express mailed it to Winnipeg and had them send it to my friend in Ontario, who then express mailed it to me in Korea. Total time from sending the application to holding the check with VSS in my hands --- 18 days.

I went to 22nd Peel regional division in Brampton last week and got the VSS + CRC done while I was there (whole process took 30 mins) cost $45 each. No finger prints were required. I hear CRC via the RCMP takes months, where local police departments a much shorter time. (in my case the same day)

Im going to get them both, along with my degree, notarized tomorrow by a lawyer, then send all 3 of them (along with the copies) via xpresspost to the korean consulate in toronto to have them further notarized. then send them off to korea to the hagwon

I did the fingerprint one with my local police station and had to send it to Ottawa. That was back on October 16th and I am still waiting for them while getting emails from EPIK saying I need stuff in around the end of December in order for them to get my desired location. Not happy about all this at the moment. Especially when you said months.
