i've been getting a free wireless signal for the last couple months, but i'm finding the quality of my skype to be really crappy with it. i'm assuming getting internet for my apartment would fix this problem? anyone with skype having issues?

another question, i contacted KT yesterday and they quoted me 36,000 per month (not a year contract) and 30,000 installation fee, does anyone have a better internet company to use? and number please (of hopefully an english-speaking rep!)?

thanks

It can also depend on if the wifi modem has a firewall. Those will screw up Skype.

I'm wired, but I've had a few issues with Skype as well. For whatever reason, it seems to work fine with friends that are close to me- my friends in Korea and in China.

But my parents in Chicago are always having static-y troubles. Then again, that might just be them . . .

I've never had any problems with Skype, up until last weekend when my calls would get dropped every 10 minutes -_- ... I'm connected to my modem via ethernet cable too. I think there's something wrong with my internet but I don't feel like asking my co-teacher to call them.

The price of broad band seems to depend largely upon how many people live in your building i.e. if you're in a large building then you can expect to pay less than if you were to live in a small apartment building with only a couple of units.

You should try SK's Hanaro Telecom. They didn't have the cheaper slower one (50mbps) available in my area but that one ends up more expensive than their fiber line (100mbps) because you have to rent the modem. The faster one you get free modem rental and if you do a year contract then the installation fee is waived and the first month is free. They also give you a "free gift"-- 4gb MP3 player, desk lamp, electric shaver, or a 40,000 won SK coupon good for E-mart or Shinsaegae department store. I picked the coupon (most people do). You can call them and just say you need to speak to someone who speaks English, or get your coteacher to tell them to call you cell and whatever time with an English speaker and the rep will call you at whatever time you specify (save you calling fees :p). The price is about 35,000 a month with the taxes. I also asked them if I go on "vacation" for a full month if I had to pay that month (call them and tell them when you're going on vacation), the lady said no, but I'm not sure if the lady understood me correctly or not.

Number for gyeonggi-do is 031+108. or... 82+108.. I forget, sorry. I called KTF and them and a local company.

btw, prices are listed on their websites. It doesn't vary by how many people live in your building unless maybe if it's a local company Mad

I have cable in my aparement and never have problems with SKYPE. However, I like to run several programs at once plus my SKYPE so I paid about $30 to have another gig of memory for my laptop and now there is never any lagging or webcam slowness, and the calls no matter where I call in the world are crystal clear.
