|
|
Hello,
I am in Korea right now on an F4 visa. My wife is staying with me and she is currently on a 3 month visitor visa. She is not teaching English and cannot obtain an E-2.
She was planning on just staying 3 months, but now may wish to stay longer. What are her options for living here with me? Is there a visa she can obtain to live here longer?
She is a Colombian citizen with a U.S. greencard.
Thanks! |

If you are F4 and you are working you can obtain an F3 (dependent family) visa for her.
You will need to submit:
proof of legal marriage (English or Korean),
proof of employment - certificate of employment (or proof of sufficient funds)
Her passport,
Your passport,
Your ARC
application,
2 passport type photos (maybe 4),
fee (50k won) for change of status
fee (10k won) for her ARC.
fee (50k won) if you want her to have a re-entry permit. |

hey thanks a lot for the info.
is the F-3 visa on par with the F-4 in terms of benefits such as being able to work at more than one place?
If not, what are the differences between the two?
Thanks again! |

F3 is DEPENDENT family. The only benefit is residence and entitlement to medical insurance. They CANNOT work unless they qualify for a work visa or addition to their status of sojourn.

So I went to Mok-dong's immigration office today with my wife and all of my paperwork. We applied for an F3 visa for her but the clerk insisted that what we wanted was actually an F1.
In my head I knew that an F1 visa had something to do with Korean nationals and I let her know that I was on an F4 visa (which should have been obvious considering my US passport and ARC).
So we just filled out the paperwork, no problem, and she told us we would be getting her F1 visa and ARC in the mail within 10 days.
So now I'm just wondering, is this how it's supposed to be? I looked up some information about the F1 and there doesn't seem to be much, but it does seem better than the F3 in terms of working privileges. |

F1 still does not permit work. It is "visiting family".
