|

Has anyone here suffered at the hands of a back seat driver in Korea? Or does anyone here enjoy actually being an irritating back seat driver?
My Korean mother-in-law is surely up there with any around. Constantly ordering me to go pull out in to the road when doing so means an almost certain collision with a car travelling at great speed. Going somewhere where she needs to give directions to me... God help me if I miss a turning because she informed me much too late for me to change lanes.
I also get the Korean for 'hurry' constantly barked at me. Why can't Korean's do anything at a sedate pace?
If I followed all of her orders, I would have needed more lives than a cat to still be here today... |

You're very unlucky. My MIL only gives directions if I ask her. Can't say I've had many backseat drivers in Korea. |

The closest I get to "back seat drivers" are the twits that follow so close when I am riding my scooter that I can only guess that they want to ride on the back with me. |

I'm sorry but I have been a back seat or shotgun seat driver when I am with my co-teacher or other Korean friends in their car. I am so used to being the driver and now I'm here, a foreigner, in a country with iffy medical facilities, no chance of getting much, if any money if I get hurt, and some of the worst drivers I have seen. I am always holding on that handle above the window. (what's that called again?) Damn, I've been in a few close calls and now I really try hard to avoid getting into a car here. Yes, I admit it, I bloody scared sometimes. |

we call it the Holy shit! handle in canada.
back seat drivers are annoying, but if the driver is putting MY safety in jeopardy they're going to get an earful unless they stop driving like a retard, let me drive, or let me out! |

If someone else is driving, such as my wife or a Korean friend, then I usually close my eyes and chill (unless I'm trying to find someplace). It's much less stressful that way and if there is an accident my body will be relaxed, which tends to reduce bodily injuries. |

I've always been a backseat driver in this country. Most Koreans don't really know the best directions, so I always provide advice until someone tells me to shut up and stop making the driver feel bad. |

My wife and her family are terrible drivers and have horrible senses of direction. On the other hand, I love driving and have GPS in the head. They actually insist I drive. They happily play games, feed me fruit and talk. |

My wife is a brutal back seat driver. She has no idea how to get anywhere, suggests the worst routes and gets pissed when I ignore her and go my own way. Very frusterating to drive with her. On the other hand I love when my FIL is with us as he is constantly telling her to pipe down. One time he said that if he were me he would have smacked her about 10 times on the trip we were on. That gave me a pretty good chuckle. When I told him I don't hit my wife he said "Well...maybe you should start". Good old Korea. Good times, good times. |

Who cares about the back seat drivers, at least they don't have access to the steering wheel! It's the front seat drivers you should be worried about. |

Well, the front seat drivers are horrible, so maybe it's time to let people drive from the back... |
