Here's a story for you. Recently, one of my students was gang beat. He was beaten almost to his death on a saturday. He was found with a shattered thy and god knows what else. He had to get surgery equalling about 10000USD which his family had to pay out. He spent over a week in the hospital.
So, I suggested, there's 100 teachers in our school, why don't we all throw in some money to help this kid out and his family since they are now in a bit of debt over this. I was then told, "that's not allowed because the principal and the vice principal are trying to cover up the incident." I was surprised. I learned they were afraid their reputations would be damaged because they've been aware of the group of students picking on this boy for YEARS! They broke his nose a few months ago. They haven't even punished the group of students that almost killed him. They also tried to hide this from the police. Thank god, the parents decided to get the police involved a week after the kid was beaten. So the school knows who did it, knows how long it's been going on for, knows how much money this kid's family had to pay, and they are pretending it never happened. They let the kids who did it, run free!
So I was really pissed off when I found this out. I wanted some kind of justice. So I tutor a kid in his final year. He's a good student. I do it for free too. So I just asked him what he knew and I told him the story. Now this one really surprised me. His reaction was, "AGAIN?!" So these stupid lowlifes, had the same thing happen 2 years ago. One junior was beat to the point he landed in the hospital, and the same VP covered it up from everyone. She didn't even punish the students. The kid just quietly disappeared from school.
IS THERE NO JUSTICE HERE?! HOW CAN THESE PEOPLE BE IN CHARGE OF KIDS! THEY ARE THE SCUM OF THE EARTH!
If anyone has any suggestions as to what to do about this, anyone to tell or something, please let me know. |

Maybe send the story off to some foreign news services. Who knows, maybe a bit of bad press across the pond would embarass the Koreans enough into doing something.
Probably not, but it's worth a shot. |

If you can post some more details, that'd be nice and would help others get the word out. You'd have to be careful to protect yourself, though, because if you're seen as damaging the school's reputation, you'll get yourself into trouble. PM me any details if you'd like. |

Form a superhero team the likes of which the world has never seen!
Seriously, though, I wish we could do something about these things. Maybe have it translated and send it in to a paper (maybe they'll cover it on TV if you get super-lucky).
I think we just have to get as many people to hear the crap that goes on.
I dunno how long you've been reading this board, but a year back a teacher took photos of some child-abuse going on at the kindergarten next door to his apartment and that landed on the news. One teacher at that school was making kids stand outside, during winter, in their underwear.
Maybe do an interview with the kid and have his face pixellated out...post it on a Korean netizen-popular site and watch the fireworks. As for pixellation, I've never tried to do it (I'm on Santa's nice list). |

I think I might try to send a letter or something to some news agencies. I'm kind of thinking no matter what, nothing is really going to change. I all ready wanted to get out of here anyway.
There were days that I thought Canada and the US was crap but now I can see that there is a much worse place. |

why don't you report your school's behavior to the police? i'm pretty sure a knock on the door from the boys in blue (or grey) would straighten out the douchebags in charge of your school pretty quick. i bet they could face some serious fines or even jail time for their complicity in the boy's life being in jeopardy. |

You write down the story. Get a Korean not associated with the school to translate it. You print out about 500 copies. And then around 4am you walk the outside of yoru school and just litter the copied all over the street, sidewalk, and neighborhood.
If the whole thing is written in KOrean, they will never pin it to you.
The incident will be out in the open. Also, the VP and principal will be going crazy trying to figure out who let the cat out the bag.
if you got it translated, email the letter to me. I'll print the suckers out for you at my school and give them to you so that it doesn't cost you anything. |

OP, Watch out! Pkang works for your school, that is just an elaborate sting operation!
OP, aren't you in the process of leaving your school. Something like this would make for an appropriate parting gift. |

Try documenting it and seeing if it will get legs on Naver. Remember what happened to the kindergarten that was shutting naked children out in the cold after the story got on? That principal and VP need a good public outing. |

I understand your frustration, but why don't the PARENTS take more action? They could do all of the things suggested by other posters, and it would be much more effective. Maybe you can find a Korean friend (if you're Korean isn't very good) and visit the family. Suggest that they go to the school and tell the P/VP that if their son's medical bills aren't paid, they will take the story to the media. |

It is 1 set of parents versus the parents of all the kids who gang bashed the kid.
Also, I'm sure there are MORE matter beneath the surface. What are the occupations of the students who did the beating?
Status counts for a lot here. If the victim's parents are nobodies, and one of the bully's parents is someone with some power/influence, then no one is going to take the side of the victim.
This is one of the situations where you need public pressure. Hence, dropping secret fliers all over the place. The bullies' parents won't be able to defend their children against all the parents at the school.
Also, the administration can't sweep it under the rug if it gets out in the neighborhood.
Surely, the local education office will learn about the matter and get involved.
These type of tactics are necessary to get some sort of justice. You just don't have the ACLU or other powerful groups to fight for you here. |

Normally I wouldn't agree with the dramatic option, but what you've described is disgusting.
I think the leafleting is a bloody good idea. Worst case scenario; you get dumped out of Korea (so what?!) |

The Korean police won't do anything about it. They will visit the school and talk to the Principal. |

Please consider reporting this to the Korea Herald newspaper. One of their reporters is a poster on Dave's. His handle is KHerald.
