No cover, but if you pay 20 000 won it's all you can drink until 1am. |

What kind of music do these bands play? I mean, do they sound similar to any other bands so I can gauge my interest in this? |

The only two I know well are Captain Bootbois, who started as a skinhead band and have gone in more of a viking rock/metal direction, and Galaxy Express, who are basically Korean MC5. Animal Dads are a foreigner band, and Bootbois have a Canadian drummer. No idea about the fourth band.

I predict Galaxy Express will win, but Captain Bootbois will be awesome. |

Galaxy Express are taking part in this contest?
That's strange. Animal Dads are good, but Galaxy Express are Kind of A Big Deal... they've played some big stages and are not exactly the indie-type band you'd expect to see in this kind of contest.
Obviously they'll win. Probably the whole battle o' bands. |

I suspect that Saint John the Gambler will win. Galaxy Express are a great band, but I don't know how well they'll do with crowd reaction. Animal Dads will probably play to the audience better, and Captain Bootbois (another band founded by Galaxy Express' bassist, by the way) have way more power. And Galaxy Express really is not above playing shows like this. Last show I saw them at had 30 people in a small basement for a bunch of punk bands. |

Cool, St. John the Gambler is playing too? You're right, they'll be tough competition, as they're all very talented players and their fun live show will give them a strong advantage...
Wish I didn't live way down here in Pyeongchon... it'd be nice to see more shows without having to worry about the 30,0000 won cab ride home. |

Saint John is playing round two next Saturday with Sotto Gamba and a few other bands I don't know. |

I was surprised how many people were there. They're going to need a bigger venue for the finale.
Anyway, these are the bands of round 2:
Nov 15 Round 2
1. Saint John the Gambler
2. Rabihem
3. Sotto Gamba
4. Decadent Gonads |

The first round of Stompers Battle of the Bands was a HUGE success! Lots of people came out and saw Galaxy Express take home bragging rights and a promise to be in the running for the grand prize on November 29th. Thanks to all four bands for putting on a great show!
Round Two should be equally exciting as four more bands go head to head for that coveted second slot in the final. Here's the lineup:
Sotto Gamba (the winners of last year's RMT Battle)
Decadent Gonads (new Seoul act that will get you jumpin'!)
Saint John the Gambler (the autumnal-sounding six-some whose new CD will be out on December 13)
Rabihem (this mostly-Korean group will make SURE Stompers is rockin!)
Just like last week, Stompers is offering a 20,000 won all-you-can-drink special. Get there at 9:00, pay 20K and don't touch your wallet again until after 1am.
See ya there!
PS: for news about last week's show, pictures and a sample of some tunes, head to the Stompers Battle of the Bands' myspace page)

I took photos at the first round, although I unfortunately missed Animal Dads and didn't see much of Galaxy Express.
