My girlfriend and I are coming to Seoul and I'm trying to find a place with solid walls. Every place I've been too is paper-thin and you can hear the people next to you all night. We're both light sleepers and we got to bed pretty early.
I don't mind staying on the south side, but we're meeting friends around Hongdae/Itaewon, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know. |

We always stay at Yim's House Motel, which is wonderful, clean, and cheap, and right there in the backstreets of Insadong near Anguk station. We get a private room (with bathroom, of course) with two beds (+TV, mini-fridge, etc) for 42,000won per night.
It's literally a mom & pop place, and the two take great pride in providing a nice stay. They also have free wifi and two free computers in the lounge.
Here's the link: http://www.yimshouse.com/
If Mr. Yim tries to charge you more than 45,000won, tell him "Dmitry said it's 42,000" ;)
Cheers!

Yim's house sucks.
the couple who owned it prior took much better care and catered to its customers a lot better.
the current ownership has removed furniture, doesn't take care of the computers (which by the way are dinosaurs and closes them down around 10 pm)
don't go there - you'll regret it.
try back alleys behind Jongno ro - there's a whole lot of them -you'll pay a bit more but it will be worth it - and considering how out of the way Yim's is - well - it's just not the same any more. |

Thanks for your input, Moosehead. It seems this is a good example of two people having differing opinions about the same place.
Moosehead is right that the computers are outdated (I use my own laptop every time), and I never visited the place under the previous owners. I don't imagine you're choosing your love motels based on their free computer processor speed, but that's something worth mentioning.
Also, it's about a 5-7 minute walk from an entrance to Anguk subway station. That might be further away than other motels.
Whichever place you end up selecting, if you end up liking it, a short review appended to this thread would be appreciated! |
