Has anyone heard if the tax policies regarding ESL teachers will change with the new president? Or will everything stay the same? |

I was under the impression that all US citizens working overseas, the first $70,000 USD is tax exempt.
Does an ESL teacher make more than 70K a year? |

It's 80,000 now.
I have a feeling we'll be seeing taxes in some form. Maybe not on income, but on something else. Maybe being overseas will no longer excuse us from all taxes if we make less than $XX,XXX.
Some people were pushing for this under Bush's term, actually. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see this revisited under Obama. The main beef is with rich overseas businessmen making huge bank and escaping tax. As we all know, there are many ways they sneak around taxes. Look for changes in the future. Obama is going to need money whereever he can get it to fund the liberal pork that is sure to be on the way. |

How many thousands of times did Obama say he wanted to lower taxes on people making less than $200,000?
I think what we have here on this thread are people making W2 million+ a month forgeting that those are Won, not Dollars and their natural right-wing paranoia is getting the better of them.
Besides, presidents don't raise taxes. Congress does. |

Sometimes people make promises they can't keep. |

It doesnt matter to me if they rescind the tax exemption for expats. We dont get W2 forms in Korea, so i will just pretend im not working, hence 0 income and no taxes. |

I can see the US government imposing a national sales tax sometime down the road. Something similar to the Canadian GST. |

If the US does impose a tax, I better be able to make contributions to an IRA. |
