So yesterday,I picked up a 700ml bottle of red label.
I used to think it was much smoother.
It burnt the tongue off me it was so fiery.
I drink my whisky neat and without ice, but Johhnie Walker Red must be one of the strongest popular whiskies out there.
If black label wasn't so expensive,I'd drink that regularly.
Back to Jack Daniels for me I think. |

Maybe because it's made in China? |

It's made w/ water and essence of Scotch and then shaken well. |

Actually, I brought over a bottle of red from NZ once as duty free, and at the same time bought a bottle from emart once I got here. The taste was quite different between them. |

Costco has Macallan, and although it is pricey, it is worth every won. |

Johnny Walker Green is a good blend. The Blue goes down like silk. |

In terms of Johnny Walker, I think you have to get the Black at the very least. I got a bottle of the Red once and never again. |

Blue is awesome. Red is firewater. |

Well you might as well try to drink a single malt Scotch, go with Balvenie, smoothest taste and finish with a great body and flavor - expensive as hell though - Their 15 year single cask is very good for the price - but if you are living it up try the 17 year
IMO Johnnie Walker is overrated - |

Blue is highly overrated and not worth the insane price markup. You're better off sticking with the black. At the end of the day, it's still just a blend. |

I don't think Blue is overrated but at that price point I would rather go with an XO cognac. |

Well lads,I think I'm going to have to go with black label from now on.
It costs a bit more, but it is very smooth albeit a bit more expensive.
The red label stuff also leaves me with a bit of a headache even after a glass or two.
I read on the Johnnie Walker website that the red label was created exclusively for mixing.I guess that's how they camoflauge the nastiness of the swill.
For me,mixing whisky is kind of like listening to 10 seconds of a song or 5 minutes of a movie. It doesn't do the art justice.
I've tried a 50ml micky of black label before and was impressed.
Blue and green labels haven't passed my palate yet. |

Yes, most whiskey in Asia is not like the whiskey in the west as it's specially produced and branded for this market. I wouldn't doubt if the stuff is made in Korea or a neighboring country and sold at these over inflated prices at a gross profit. The quality of some of those expensive whiskeys here is appalling while a few are decent.
Japan is said to have really good whiskey going on. |
