I'd be curious about that too! I've had recommendations for bars, but not shops. Right now I'm just having stuff sent via airmail from Europe.

From their website, I got http://gmcrecords.net/onlineshop/morningmall/ (Don't know why you would want to buy their stuff though, sounds like noise)

There's a cool little CD shop in Shinchon that's been kicking around for years. Good selection of all types of music - indie, metal, hip-hop. Mostly current stuff though. Forgot the name, but it's just past the bigass Dunkin Donuts on the way from Shinchon subway station to Yonsei University.

Or you could try buying it online domestically:

Forgot the name, but there's a really good music store at COEX Mall. They have a great selection of metal, rock, you name it.

I got the new ACDC (Black Ice) and Metallica and an old Twisted Sister album from Kyobo Bookstore in Seoul. The selection there is impressive. Sorry can't remember the subway station name but its right in front of the bookstore and the embassies of New Zealand and Australia.

Hyang Music. I think you can find it if you start standing in front of the McDonald's facing it, and follow the sidewalk to the left. It'll be on the opposite side of the street, but walking on that side will make it easier to spot. They are the most likely place where you'll find Vassline CDs unless you go to a GMC show and look at the merch table.

Vassline are a good as hell band. The hardcore scene in Korea is strong, with a lot of bands like Vassline crossing over into metal recently.

Barring that, there's always Soulseek.

in stark contrast to japan, there is almost no market for metal/hardcore/punk/indie in this nation of 55 million. but go to one of the fairly frequent shows in hongdae and you can pick up vassiline's records. (cds) thats where i got mine.

There is a used-record store in hongdae. The record store is called Metavox. They also have a website Metavox.co.kr. They have a huge selection of used and new metal cds. You are not going to find a bigger place. Trust me. The owner and the employees are really nice and whats cool about the store is that you can listen to the cd before purchasing it. Hope this helps. I really hope good bands drop by Korea too. I wish I could have gone to the Arch Enemy show earlier this year.

And in stark contrast to China as well, where underground music is exploding, at least in Beijing.

Still, Korea is bursting with talented if not particularly original bands.
