As the title states, is there a Dell store in Seoul? I would like to test drive the new mini 9 or perhaps get a 12 inch instead...crass comments are most welcome

BTW, I tried the search feature, it is quite useless |

There aren't any Dell stores here, but I've seen Dell computers for sale in Hi-Mart and Home Plus. I saw the Mini 9 at Hi-Mart the other day and it looks pretty good. |

Thanks!
I will check at HiMart this week, but I wonder if the HM in Chuncheon will have them as well...

We had good luck with them before they started hiking prices after this summer. Geeze, you used to be able to get a full notebook computer for 550,000 when they offered the Turion chips in addition to the Intel chips. Now you have to pay closer to 900,000 to get similar to slightly better performance.
They also seem to be discouraging people from modifying the base offerings these days. Quite a bit more expensive to do that in Korea. It didn't used to be that way. |

You're not kidding about that. I bought a new laptop from Dell Korea last month and I paid about 1.25 million for it. I did the exact same configuration today on the web site, and it priced out at almost 1.9. Must be the weakening of the won taking its toll. |

Yeah, we bought my mother-in-law a Dell Turion x2 chip notebook at maybe 1.8 mhz or so (yeah, I know a Turion is about .2 slower than a Dual Core Pentium) for 550,000 shipped. It's plenty fast. It had 2 gig of Ram in it, and a good sized hard disk. We chose XP.
Dell's current prices absolutely suck rocks, unless you get lucky on a model sold by a local store that purchased it for sale before the won drop. That is assuming they're not trying to take advantage of the drop by raising the price now. |

|
|
I went there today and they had two on display, but not much detail about them. Here are the details:
Alpine white, 1 GB DDR2 RAM, 8 GB SSD RAM
I wish it had a larger SSD, but quite a few comps offer larger drives now, I would plan to just use SD cards for most storage and what not.
Here are my questions though:
What size is the webcam? .30 or 1.3? Not that it really matters, but I would still like to know
Bluetooth? There is a Bluetooth setting under the startup up menu, but the sales people could not tell me what message was being displayed. If it did not have it, not that big of a deal, a dongle is pretty cheap from Ebay anyhow and it could be modded with a bit of soldering.
Price? 499K out the door...I almost took one home, but I will check what other gems are lurking at other stores. There is no tax or so I was told.
With the current exchange rates, it is about 366 USD, cheaper than its US counterpart or within range
Does anyone know how the warranty works? How long is the Dell Korea warranty? |

On a much lighter note, HiMart did not even have the Mini 9 tethered with a security leash or anything. Quite the change from all stores in any other country in the world.
I just picked it up, walked over to a table, sat down and proceeded to test it out for about an hour or so. Pretty perky speed, low volume, better keys than the Averatec netbook models.

Just got off the phone with Dell and here are the further details:
.30 Webcam
No bluetooth, sofware installed
1 year international warranty (hard to verify, but she claimed it was.
Still thinking about it, vacation is coming and I don't to carry my 17 inch laptop all over the EU again...
FWIW,

I was messin' with the new Dell at Hi-mart today. The webcam was sized to 352xsomething, so yeah.... 3. I'm waiting for a larger battery (5 cell) and a bigger 16gig minimum HD. |

Bassexpander,
I cant seem to find the larger battery pack on the Dell website, but it was there earlier this month or so. The webcam is not that big of a deal for me, but for the cash, I would like something better....I plan to just use SD cards or maybe do an upgrade later for the SSD

Maybe they were afraid they wouldn't be able to sell out of their stock computers with less battery life, and will bring back the bigger battery later. That's my guess.
Can you use the SD media as an additional hard disk? Can you install a program onto it and use it in Windows, or must that program be on the C drive? |

I think they will sell out of their comps no problem this Xmas season...Black Friday will have Netbooks available at most box stores. I am sure the Minis will be the Ubuntu, no webcam, 512, 8gb models for 299 or less
If you want to run programs directly off of the card, I know there are progs to make a card/usb stick a drive capable of running programs. When I remember the name, I will post an edit...
EDIT: http://www.mojopac.com/ or one of the other 100 odd programs
I would just use it for data and to move files from my other computers to the mini machine. There are so many free online storage sites now or gmail hacks to use the space on your account...options, options |
