I generally see the schedule listed for public school jobs listed as 8:30 - 4:30, but I've never seen how that is usually broken up. School doesn't last until 4:30, right? Is there a teacher work/planning time at the end of the day, then?

For middle schools, students leave at 3:30ish and if your school allows it, you can leave around that time or 4:00. If not, you have an hour to prepare lesson plans or pretend like you're working.

this year my schedule goes:

1st 9-9:45
2nd 9:55-10:40
3rd 10:50-11:35
4th 11:45-12:30
lunch 12:30-1:15
5th 1:15-2:00
6th 2:10-2:55

there are 10 min. breaks in between for me, i think this is the norm at public schools (a little recess between classes). last year my lunch was a little longer, but i finish teaching earlier now. from 2:55 to 4:30 i'm pretty much just lesson planning at my desk

edit: i should probably mention my work day starts at 8:30

8.20 till 17.00 on a Monday, 3 classes between 11.00 to 16.40.
Tue- Fri 8.30 till 17.00, 4 classes between 9.00 to 16.40.

Some classes are only 25 of 50 minutes of me, then I can retire to the staffroom.
The hours are a bit over the contracted hours, but the school got us a 3-bedroomed apt and don't ask for vacation work.

I'm at my private high school 8:30am to 4:30pm. Classes start no earlier than 9am, but go long after I've left for the day. My last class of the day falls into the 3:40 to 4:30pm slot a few days per week.

8.20am first class - 4.00pm with 10 min breaks and lunchtime.

4.10pm - 10.00pm supplementary classes and study classes (compulsory unless they have a very good reason to not be there)

I 'work' 8:30 - 4:30 Monday to Friday and teach twenty-two, fourty-five minute classes during the following -

Monday to Thursday, six classes a day are scheduled between 9:20 and 3:40 (four before lunch and two after). On Friday there are seven classes scheduled between 8:40 and 3:55 (four before lunch and three after).

840 - 440... though the kids are gone after 130 or so...
I have 4 or 5 classes depending on the day, and spend the afternoons at my desk (or doing teacher training classes, but that's temporary)

8:20-4:20 (though I'm always there in the morning at 7:45ish).

It's expected that everyone stays until 4:20, but I often take care of any business I have during school hours, so I'll leave after my classes are done when necessary. I've never been refused leaving early and never got any trouble for it.

my public elementary school:

Work hours: 8:30AM-4:30PM

Periods:
1st: 9:00A-9:40A
2nd: 9:50A-10:30A
3rd: 10:40A-11:20A
4th: 11:30A-12:10P
Lunch in between
5th: 1:00P-1:40P
6th: 1:50P-2:30P

I think 4th and younger grades are finished after 5th period.. unless they have extra classes/clubs. And then they come to my office to play....... I leave around 5-6pm each day.
