Hi there (ahem) poetry lovers and, most especially, musicians!

If any musical instrumentalists would like to perform at the forthcoming Word Up @ The Bad Apple on Tuesday 7th of October, please contact me by email [email protected] and I will schedule a slot for you. We kick off around 9.30 and play until late...ish.

Any instrument (even bagpipes), or unaccompanied vocalists are welcome to strut their stuff on the sexy Bad Apple stage, which offers a small PA, a starry backlit backdrop and the chance to be included in our webcast on www.daejeonweb.com If you know any local muso's starved of an opportunity to play in public, please pass this message on to them.

Hope to hear from you soon, Plastic B

My how fast a month can pass (ahem) poetry lovers, it's time yet again for Word Up at the Bad Apple Bar.

Poetry, music and mayhem all await, not forgetting the first ever crowning of King Konglish for whoever presents the MOST mangulisated piece of written English found in this grammar-challenged society. First (and only) prize, decided by public acclaim, is one of the Bad Apple's very fine burgers, and maybe a glass of mekju if you ask the Bad Apple's handsome, talented and intelligent barman Paul nicely enough...you get the idea.

Bring yourself, your co-workers and friends as well as (perhaps) your musical instruments and poetry, found or otherwise, for a v.groovy night this Tuesday at the Bad Apple Bar, Walpyongdong. Call Paul on 042 484 0506 for directions if you've never visited the Bad Apple ~ Daejeon's classiest expat bar. Oh, did I forget to mention it's free entry...

See you there, Plastic B.

October's "Word Up" at the Bad Apple proved a hoot! For proof, check out www.daejeonweb.com especially Bonnie's odes to Spam and Dave's off the cuff hilariously poetic musings about David Beckham and his sexual obsession with horses!?!

We are happy to hear from any prospective musicians or wordsmiths for the next "Word Up", scheduled for Tuesday 4th of November at the Bad Apple in Walpyongdong, Daejeon. Mail me at [email protected]

All the best, Plastic B

Hi there poetry lovers,

Are you excited? I'm excited! Know why? Well the new year is almost upon us, and even more excitingly, the first Word Up @ The Bad Apple for 2004 will be held in the first week of that very same new year. Keep Tuesday 5th of January free of other engagements for your monthly dose of poetry and hilarity at Daejeon's premier expat bar, The Bad Apple.

Merry Excema, poetry lovers, from the management and staff (well...me) of Word Up @ The Bad Apple. May the New Year be as fruitful and bounteous as the passed.

The New Year is already looking bounteous when on Tuesday, 5th of January's Word Up, we feature on stage, not only the (ahem) intellectual cream of Daejeon's expat elite, but also present the inaugural Word Up "Limerick Grand *beep*". And if two of those words don't feature in at least one rhyming couplet I'd be very surprised!

Winner of the "Limerick Grand *beep*" will be decided by audience appreciation (and bribes). First prize is a cheeseburger ~ apt ~ and second prize is nothing. Yeah, that's right losers, a big fat nothing. Except maybe a beer. Maybe.

Action kicks off around 9.30pm with open mic readers, comedians, musicians and anyone who needs to get a load off their chest. The limerick competition is open to all, with a maximum of three limericks, preferably of your own composition.

The Bad Apple Bar is in Walpyongdong, a few doors up from the Walpyongdong No.1 Police Station. Call Paul on 042 484 0506 for more detailed directions.

Word Up @ The Bad Apple Bar : stirring the epicentre of Daejeon's waygook literary culture since, ooh, about five months now...

Okay, the festering season is finished
over the New Year's hangover pollution
it's time to break yet another resolution!
Yes, I know
you said you'd let it go
resolved to give up on poetry
once and for all
to let it die an unfashionable death
alongside those other artistic exploits eschewed
since you
picked up that first bottle of soju
but you just can't let it go.
Oh no, you've started to rhyme
one more time
it sticks to you like slime.
No, I'm
not going to fall for that one again
rather go further insane
fly to Spain
or catch an unfinished subway train
anyway to get away
from Word Up
@ The Bad Apple Bar.
Ha! ha! ha!
Go on, come along
you know you want it...

Word Up @ The Bad Apple Bar
