Cool little device. May I ask why you are selling?

I'm moving back to the states and I have way too much stuff. The reader is an amazing device, especially in Korea where I didn't have access to many English books. The reader is in excellent condition- it's a last minute decision since I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my personal belongings =(

Op are you sure it's the 500, or is it the 505?

I have one and it's wonderful. It will also take microsoft word files, PDF files, txt files and rtf files. The only one I've seen it really not take was Microsoft lit files.

It's small enough that I'm surprised the OP would try to save space.

They are impossible to get in Korea, I got mine from the Army base.

Do they stop you at the airport in Korea if you have one?

I can see that local book printers and distributors, who are probably closely-tied with the chaebols, are probably scared to death about losing all of their government-mandated control and power.

Hi,
Yes, it's a 500. I bought it from the States and had it shipped to me here. You're right, it's a great device, especially in Korea. It's not so much a matter of space but trying minimize all the belongings I've accumulated so far. I already sold the item, and now I'm feeling seller's remorse.

How will they stop me? How will they know that I bought it here? How will they know I have it?

I'm asking the same question. The above poster said they're impossible to get in Korea.

I've been eyeing ebook readers. I want one that also reads Microsoft Help Files (CHM) so that drastically reduces what's available.

File types that it should read:
txt
Word DOC
PDF
CHM
HTML

This is the only one I've seen that can do all of that: HanLin eBook http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/E-book_Reader_Matrix

but I don't know where to find one.

I bought the Sony, so its off the market.

A Korean company named Neolux makes a similar product called a Nuutbook. I am unsure if it reads CHM. You can order one by phone or email, or pick one up in their offices in Seoul for 297,000. I believe them to be a reputable company but have not dealt directly. Online reviews are positive.

The only significant difference between a Nuutbook and the Sony Reader is that the Nuut won't read PDF. However, it is kind of a nonissue because you can save a PDF to a text file and read it on a Nuutbook that way. Also, although the Sony reads PDF, the quality sucks, so your better off converting it to a text file to read, anyway.

latest update of the Sony software lets you expand PDF files to readable size. (It used to be very small) Also converting PDF to text files tends to make it look rather strange with lots of ? and other weird marks in it.

When I was looking for an Ebook reader, I heard that the Nuutbook can only read txt files? Is that still true?

I am certain it reads other file formats but I don't have a list. I emailed them once, though and got a fast response. I almost bought one and the only reason I didn't was this ad came up and I figured since it was a hundred bucks cheaper, buy the used Sony.

Also, there are a few newer models expected to come out in 2009 from other companies. One model is razor thin, 8 by 11, flexible, and in color! Its expected to sell for 300 bucks or so but won't be out until mid 2009. I am very excited about this technology since I love to read but hate carrying books.

Meanwhile I will use this while the new ones work out the bugs.
