Currently I'm working at a public school in Busan. I'll be renewing my contract for another year. What documents are required for the E2 visa? Will I have to travel to Japan or is this done at immigration?
Also, can I still apply for the pension refund if I leave the country during vacation?
Thanx

To renew your current contract and extend your status of sojourn (ARC) you will need:
1. Visa Extension Application
2. Passport and your Alien Registration Card
3. New contract (with end date shown)
4. Sponsorship Certificate (from school)
5. A copy of Certificate of School / Business Registration (from school)
6. Processing Fee (30k for the extension)
7. New Criminal Record Certificate, apostillized / embassy notarized (if not already submitted)
8. New Health Check Certificate (if not already submitted).
You will NOT need to travel to Japan for an extension. It is done at your local immigration office.
IF you plan any travel abroad during the next year you should also tick the box on the application and get a multiple re-entry permit at this time.
Free if you are from the UK. 50k won for everyone else. (NOTE to Americans - Your multi-entry on your original visa does NOT carry over into the extension. You DO need a re-entry permit if you plan to travel.)
You cannot get your pension refund until you are finished your contract (and any visa extensions with the same employer) and are leaving Korea.
You CAN ask for your severance (1 months salary for every FULL year worked).

I didn't need to give any documents for my second year as I am employed by the central office of education in my province.
Some teachers are employed by the city I live in and they needed to get all the documents listed above. |

So how did you extend without your ARC or a new / extended contract?
Either:
a) you are NOT on an E2 or
b) Someone presented it all to immigration on your behalf or
c) you are in an overstay position.
pick one
- if there a new date on the back of your ARC then you, or someone acting for you, presented the required documents (at least 1-6) to immigration.
