Hey guys just another week or week and a half till visa. What website or carrier did you use for your flight. The cheaper and more consumer friendly the better.

| If you are talking about flying to Korea, the school pays and schedules that. Just have them email you an E-Ticket. |

Huh? A school (public or private) buying a ticket 'up front' is now the exception, not the rule.
OP,
Just use your local travel agent - they will get you the best deal. Save ALL paperwork with regard to the ticket including your boarding pass. |

I came here last year and my hagwon paid for it. If things have changed, then I guess you got to pay and hope to be reimbursed. So, be careful with the hagwons then. Maybe ask to go 50/50.
The first hagwon that offered me a job last year didn't pay for it, so I waited for another hagwon. Their travel agent sent me an email asking for a credit card number. I told them they sent it to the wrong person LOL.
With the economy being as bad as it is, I can see why people willing to dish out an extra grand just to pay off their 10 grand in school loans. |

Ours (all four flights, two adults, two children) are being paid by the school, no up front costs.
It just depends on what you have to offer and what they need.

I signed on with CBFLIS, it's government, I get reimbursed. Just trying to find the cheeeeapest fair out of Birmingham, AL to Seoul.

Price aside, your best bet would be flying out of Atlanta. Korean Air/Delta have 1-2 direct flights to Incheon per day. (They code-share their flights to Incheon).
It beats having a layover anywhere, as it is a long flight to begin with. Since you're getting reimbursed, I wouldn't worry about the cost. Arriving comfortably with all your luggage intact is worth the extra cost.

My school paid for my ticket up-front. At least I hope they did, I'm flying out in 12 hours. |

I agree, you should get the best flight for you since you aren't paying for it. The direct from Atlanta is the best way to go. Also, try to get the Korean Air flight (rather than the Delta). The seats are slightly bigger, the food is better, the flight attendants friendlier and the alcohol more abundant. Your best bet is to buy a delta ticket on the codeshare flight. It is usually cheaper than buying through Korean Air. |

Here's my experience. This got me wondering which way hagwons're going these days:
Hagwon emails the contract, which includes the following:

| The school provides round-trip ticket. . . The school will provide the teacher a one-way ticket to Korea. The school will provide a one-way ticket to the U.S.A. after completion of the full contract term. |
Director emails some instructions sometime after that:

Teachers usually buy the ticket and when they arrive here, the school reimburse an airfare.
Please check [travel agency]. Tell [travel agent] you are one of my friends and need a ticket. She will be able to find a reasonable ticket for you. Or do you want me to tell her in advance? |
I email the following response:

| I am proceeding on the premise that the flight to Korea is prepaid (as stated in the contract), rather than reimbursed. At this point, I am at a loss to pay for my own flight and must rely solely on the flight being prepaid. |
Director relents (bold done by me):

| I do understand your situation and support you. I will make a reservation directly and pay it when you receive your visa promptly. I just want to let you know this is unusual. |
No mention and no problem after that. What actually seemed unusual was the need to plead my own case about it. I don't think it was just one hagwon deciding on its own. Might be a trend, but I hope not. |

PS I flew American ( Boeing 777, video screens on the back of every seat, noise-cancelling headphones) to Tokyo and connected to Korean Air (older wide-body) to Incheon.
