Would it be worth my time to get more than one copy of my CBC? Or is it a one-time only necessity for getting my initial E-2 visa? I would hope that once Immigration sees it the first time, they don't need to see another copy year after year.
I'm going into the local police station tomorrow to pick mine up...hope they let me get my husband's as well but I'm almost certain they won't. It's the last document we need before we can come over (aside from a contract, that is) and I just want it to be over. |

Photocopy it and save a scanned version on your computer. Heck, make two copies. With any personal or official document, this is always a good policy. Protect yourself. |

The official policy when it was announced was that you only needed to do it once.
The actual policy being enforced (contrary to published policy) is that you require a new one (CRC) EVERY TIME you change your visa AND it must be less than 6 months old.
You don't need to do it if you stay on the original visa by way of extension with the same employer.

So even if I got more than 1 copy, it wouldn't be valid a year or two from now? I guess that makes sense. I'm planning to stay with my employer for more than a year or two, but you never know what could happen, I guess. I'm going to give my mum Power of Attorney before I go so I suppose if I need a new one in the future she can get it for me with little trouble.
Thanks for your help!! |

If you ask the police or whomever is doing the check, they will normally be able to give you a second official copy. (not a photo copy) You might never use it, but not bad to have just in case. |

ttom,
I just hired a teacher from a hagwon that shut down. He submitted his CRC 5-6 months ago. When I applied for his E2 issuance number, they didn't require a CRC for him again. Now, this might be different for the PS system, and it might be different depending on which immigration officer you get, but this is what happened on my boat 2 weeks ago. |

We did not get a visa transfer. He had to make the trip to immigration. He was released from his last position. He had an LOR. |

ttom,

That's what I'm hoping to do. I started my current job in July having submitted a CRC. Now I've been given one month's notice (this week) and want to find another job. My current boss is going into immigration with me to cancel my visa and I'll be leaving on good terms with them. I don't think I'll need a letter of release, but they're going to give me one anyway. But I think all I need is for my alien card to be cancelled and receive an exit order on Dec 15th. That would give me another month in Korea. I'm actually finished teaching on Nov 28th, but they're paying me up to Dec 15th. My boss mentioned about going in with me on Dec 1st, so maybe my exit order will only be good until Jan 1st.
Anyway, I really hope I don't need another CRC and/or a VSS. The CRC I had done back in June was done through International Fingerprint Services where I didn't need fingerprints. I had to send a document with a couple of picture ID's and personal info to a family member in the RCMP who then took it to the Commissioner of Oaths to swear it in. Then it was sent to Charlottetown to be processed and sent back again to IFS. Then it was sent to me in Korea whereupon I had to take it to the Canadian embassy to swear an affidavit. Immigration accepted it.
Now what? I thought that it would still be good since I haven't left Korea. And I remember you and ajumma stating that you both had no problems in your respective situations. You or ajumma said that the CRC was only valid for 6 months BEFORE applying for a visa. After it's submitted, the 6-month rule doesn't apply.
Argh. |
