So my school is ONLY giving me my 7 days off for winter break. They are making me work one 3 day camp and told me that I will come into school for 8 hours when I dont have my camps.... now I didn't protest much yet, but showed my disdain to my coteacher.

Basically its the Janitor and me Monday - Friday. The teacher before me went on vacation and never came back so I'm guessing they're worried about me doing the same.

How can I confront the VP an Principal about this and tell them that I dont want to do this in a respecful way? They said I'd be planning for next semester etc.... but I'm ready for next semester so that leaves me with a cold ass on a winter day watching youtube and playing bejeweled...

Anyone in a pickle like this? I just want one more week of vacation.

I'm assuming you're at a public school. Just ask to take your 20 vacation days as stated in your contract that you can take while school is not in session.

Now, if my co-teachers and administration would stop asking me every detail on what I plan on doing during my break, it'd be awesome. I frankly don't know what to do with myself for 6 weeks.

I've been told the same thing. I was told that because I am being paid I must come in during the break, all day, with nobody here. I was told that I am doing some workshops or something. Nobody has told me when or where. THey said I would find out at the beggining of Dec. It seems preety damn stupid to me, but I don't think the vacation time is specified in the contract so I think I just have to lump it.

A sympathetic doctor and a note buys you five straight sick days....

You can bet that your allotted amount of vacation TIME is very specifically outlined in your contract. The only question would be when to take it or when you get it (dates are negotiable with proper notice).

IF you are in a PS AND you are on an old contract you get 7 WORKING days (not including weekends or holidays) for your vacation. That would be bumped to 10 working days if you are at a "designated rural school".

If you are on a new contract (dated after Sept) then you get 10 working days vacation during the winter break.

Vacation days are specified. What I meant was if we have to come in when the students are not in sesion. THus, we will have to lump it nad come in if we do not want to use our vacation time. I came at the end of Auguse so it is seven for me. I'm not going to freak out to much. I wanted to travel a bit, which I still can if I take my vacation. Other than that I was going to read and drink anyway. I can read at school and nobody will know if I'm hungover anyway.

I work for gepik and this year I get 19 paid vacation days. Also, school doesn't make me come into work during break so I and the wife take about a month and 10 days at our home in Thailand. Than in the spring I get 2 more weeks vacation for resigning and that usually adds up to at least 3 more weeks in Thai.

According to my GEPIK contract, I have 15 sick days. Also, I only need a doctor's note if I take at least 7 of those CONSECUTIVELY.
So, if they screw you too badly with vacation, you may consider taking a couple of 6-day "sick breaks." Smile

yeah, that will be lovely.

it was freezing (as in below 32) last Sunday for the Bears game.
Let me know how Chicago is in January. I've suffered too many Januarys in Chicago.

I'll send you a postcard from Thailand.. or the Phillippines.

your situation is WAY better than some people's. my friend is going to be teaching about 4 weeks during the break, and when i last talked to my co-teacher, it sounded like i was going to have 4+ weeks of camp/class.

you may have to be at school, but at least you're not teaching

I'd rather teach. If I have to come to work I would rather work. I don't have a problem with working as long as there is a reason for it. Coming in just because is just plane stupid
