So I am off for the entire month of Feburary and would like to get away for a couple weeks and not spend too much money.
Where would you suggest going in South East Asia? I have already been to Thailand twice, Vietnam and Cambodia and a beach is definitly important.

Might look further South to Indonesia and Malaysia? I'm trying to go to Bali since I've been to SE Asia a few times, but it's still a nice get a way as it's just too way cool. There's also the Philippines which I haven't been to yet. India is an idea I was kicking around in my head last week, but I'd want more than 3 weeks to go to India.

Hey, great idea! Is it safe enough to trek around? How does one get into Myanmar from Thailand? I know you can get in through 3 pagodas pass and another place near Mae Hongson, but these are only day passes where your passport is held by immigration at the border and doesn't allow you out to Bagan.

EDIT: I get it. You have to fly in and out.

Any ideas on tickets to Vietnam? I only have 9 days before my winter camp starts, so I want to go somewhere. Hanoi or Saigon?

airasia has cheap flights into Rangoon from bkk.. daily flights ...
or you can fly from changmai into bagan..

I would fly into rangoon, then spend a day or two there.. then fly up north for treking and walk down into Inle lake.. from there fly into Bagan for 3 days... then fly out back to yangoon .. or if you want to visit other places then you should.. yes its very safe! and the people are very nice..

Itaewonguy: Which airline flies the Bagan/Chiang Mai route? I see Air Asia runs the Bangkok/Yangoon route. You could go to Yangoon, then Bagan, then Chiang Mai for north Thailand trekking, and then over to Laos to Vietnam and back around to Thailand to make a circuit tour. Usually Myanmar is not included the SEA circuit of backpacker touring, but now it can be.

It was Airasia they had a 40dollar special 2 years ago when I went..
guess they stopped it.. maybe it wasnt to bagan, maybe it was to mandalay.. I really cant remember plus I didnt go that route, I just remember seeing it when I was preparing for my trip..
I went, bkk, yangoon, yangoon, to Kalaw hike to inle lake, then fly to bagan, then fly to yangoon and then out to malaysia..
