| Richard Cohen had an article suggesting Gore, but I think that Bill would make an interesting choice. However, I think the administration may come off as a little too slick. |

There are definitely 3 people I would keep out of the state department;
Al Gore, John Kerry and Bill Clinton.
There are at least 4 others I would consider better qualified.
Bill Richardson
Dick Lugar
Richard Holbrooke
Chuck Hagel
(Colin Powell) |

Jandar,
I agree with you on Bill Clinton and John Kerry, however there is no way Gore would accept such a position. Clinton already has his own foundation and work and I doubt he'd give that up. Kerry is a sitting senator and I'd hate to see a bunch of senators pulled for White House jobs as we need their help to pass legislation. |

Ah but Dave, think of the possibilities for tabloid stories if Bill were offered and accepted the post? Why, he could leave a sullied woman in every port of call and give whole new meaning to the worn phrase "diplomatic exchange."
Rahm would have to go on damage control 24/7.
I don't think Obama would be that stupid and if he were, he'd immediately lose my respect for his judgment.
Powell won't take the post even if offered for personal reasons. Richardson would be a good choice.
I'm sure Jimmy Carter has wet dreams about the slim prospect of the same.
Speaking of which, Jesse Jackson would just love to revel in the attention. Again, I would expect Obama to exercise better judgment. |

Clinton, megalomaniac that he may be, would not be so stupid.
That said, I think B Rich would be a great choice over Billy boy. |

| OP, just wishful thinking? Bill Clinton (God bless him, he was the first President I voted for) doesn't stand a chance. And to be honest, I don't even think Bill and Obama can stand each other. Plus, haven't you heard? Hillary will be taking another stab at the Presidency...maybe as soon as 2012, and I guarantee you that the woman has already begun building her case against Obama for that rematch 4 years down the road. He may no longer be sleeping with her, but Bill is definitely on Hillary's side. |

Don't get me wrong I think Bill Clinton has a role to play in international Politics. I think he'd be fine as some kind of roving emissary or even as ambassador to the UN.
I just as soon leave Gore to his rantings.
Well Kerry is just an opportunist and populist I just don't think Obama should trust him, keep him in the Senate. Unless you want to appoint him and fire him after the senate seat is filled. |

I don't think it's likely, but I do think Clinton would make an excellent Secretary of State. Also, Hillary will not be running in 2012, unless Obama crashes and burns terribly. She does have some fissures she can work within the party, but if she tried to exploit these and failed she'd look like a total b!tch by 2016 and ruin her chances. Also, I think she'll be 69 in 2016. Not a spring chicken. |

Precisely because he is one, I wouldn't expect him to exercise good judgment. The only bigger media *beep* is Carter.

Uh, if he couldn't be trusted to campaign for Obama, what makes you think he'd do the latter's bidding in this post?

Yes, in the same way that other Vietnam vets couldn't trust him to give accurate testimony to a Senate subcommittee hearing in the early 1970s.
I'd say keep marooned on Martha's Vineyard off Cape Cod with his bulldog wife. |
