|

Well, Avast hasn't been able to catch an annoying file called, "Tracker.vbs" which has been damaging my hard drive and memory key partitions. It's coming from school. So far, ESET NOD32 has been the only antivirus program to catch it. Kaspersky might, but I haven't tried (Kaspersky slowed down my work computer too much, so I ditched it).
There's not much on the net about Tracker.vbs. Found a way to delete it, but NOD catches it. The sucky thing tracker does is screw up your partition so that you can't just click on it to open it. You have to right-click first, then explore the drive to see what's in it. Even after the virus is cleaned, the damage still remains. |

I think I got something like that too. I inserted my windows disc and 'repaired' windows and after that it was all good. |

Tried it, and it kept crapping out on two machines... shuttin' itself down. I so wanted it to work. |

Careful using a cracked version of NOD32. I had to reformat my HD after some jackass put up a malicious copy on mininova. |

I'm on Kaspersky now. I had a trial of ESET NOD, and it's really great, but my wife removed it and installed a no-limit crack from her brother. It was last year's version, though.
I didn't like that idea, so I removed that and installed a 3-month trial of Kaspersky. I've had Kaspersky at work. So far, my favorite is ESET. |

Looks like the current best in the crop are:
1.Paid Avira version (free version has no anti-malware, and is therefore worthless, IMHO).
2. F-Secure 2009
Avast turned-in very repectable numbers, considering it's free for an entire year, and renewable.
Kapersky and NOD32 didn't even top those two. Of the two, I would probably go with F-Secure, because the paid version of Avira can only be purchased in Euro, and at 40 euro, is prohibitively expensive. I wasn't overly thrilled with Avira, because I kept getting bluescreens and it sometimes wasn't loading properly. I'll be trying F-secure 2009 on my work machine next week. |

Well, I have come to the conclusion that I am not impressed with ESET NOD32. I am running into the same troubles as others are -- it detects great, but doesn't clean properly! So far, Kaspersky has detected and cleaned the Tracker.vbs virus from my memory key, and also was able to make my key work properly again. Even when ESET NOD32 pronounced my key clean, it was still not working properly. After Kaspersky cleaned it, it does. |

Hmm... Kaspersky cleaned it, but it seems the damage the virus did is back. Maybe I should just reformat my memory key. |

you'll need to go through your registry.
virii usually insert lines into your registry so that they can reinstall themselves if your anti-virus deletes it.
also try disabling your internet while you clean your pc ... to prevent the virus from downloading and installing itself again. |

Thanks... I'll have to work on that. There was some registry delete for it online, but I assumed it had been cleaned up. Maybe not. |
