In my new building, there is a free breakfast buffet for tenants. And every morning it consists of the same ol' crap. I wish the chefs would use their imagination and mix it up sometimes, but they rarely do. Considering their lack of culinary skills, perhaps they're just playing it safe?
Corn flakes, steamed rice, two soups of the day, tasteless veggie egg rolls, totally bland scrambled eggs (at least they're not runny), soggy cardboard wedge potatoes (one day they had hash browns a la McDonald's, but have yet to see them again), some kind of disgusting sausage (though today, they had bacon! and it was real bacon even though it wasn't crispy they way I like it), fruit and veggies of the day (ranging from a simple salad to cherry tomatoes to kiwi to watermelon to oranges), yoplait yogurt in 5 different flavors, bread and muffins, milk, 3 kinds of juice, and coffee.

Would it be too much to ask the chef/chefs to try to make the eggs and wedge potatoes at least somewhat edible? They can throw some onions and bell peppers and seasoning salt in there and make some home fries! If not, bring back the hash browns! Actually, the eggs, I just throw some salt and pepper on them, and they're fine. But the potatoes, not even ketchup and Tobasco can save them. And seeing that no one else even touches the potatoes, I can see that I'm not alone in my assessment, and ultimately, there's a lot of food going to waste. Should I say something to the building management? Or just suck it up and deal with it. I wouldn't want to get anyone fired.

And yeah, I know that there are people starving in the streets, but you know what, my morning potatoes matter to me. I hate going to the office every morning with the aftertaste of cardboard in my mouth. Every morning, I tell myself to stay away from the potatoes, but I can't. It's like a sick game. I know they'll taste bad, but I give them a chance anyway. And I'm tired of being disappointed. Damn it, I want change! Go Obama! Twisted Evil

That building sounds like one of those buildings for diplomats and engineers. My friend used to live in one.

I hope your job is not publishing because your writing style sucks.
How do you like those potatoes?

But in reality, it's not free. The rent in my building is not cheap. The tenants here are paying for that breakfast.

No, I don't work in publishing. And by the way, it's spelled "writing." Rolling Eyes

Stop dwelling on the minutia of life and your posts might improve.

I caught that. Bobranger had to edit his post twice, to correct two spelling errors...when his post was only two sentences long. Twisted Evil

But seriously, I'm not here to nitpick about spelling. Should I complain about the potatoes? It's food going to waste. Maybe I can offer my services to teach the chef how to cook up some good home fries. Then the other tenants would bow down and worship me. Razz

Good job Freekstar. I was laughing at the same thing.
Keeping with the food theme: I guess I should clean the egg off my face. No use crying over spilt milk . (corny eh?)
Seriously, the potatoes are probably frozen then reheated over and over again. If you complain they probably will just stop serving them.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're frozen, cuz on some days, they're waffle-shaped. Anyway, wouldn't hurt for them to throw some onions, garlic and bell peppers in there. Sad

Are you sure they throw away it after? Maybe there's someone or some people that are eating it after you go to work.

Isn't there a manager you can talk to if you are afraid of offending the kitchen staff?

Why does this have to be such a difficult question?

I don't know. Maybe cuz I'm the type of person who hates complaining about their food unless there's something seriously wrong with it. I ordered a side of fries with my steak, but they gave me mashed potatoes instead? Fine. I asked for my steak to be cooked medium rare, but it's medium well? Fine. I ordered the duck based on the recommendation of my server, but I don't like it? Tough luck. I'm uncomfortable when people cause a scene at a restaurant or send their orders back when something is slightly off - it's just a personal thing, and I'm not saying people don't have the right to complain when their order gets f*cked up. I just don't like to openly complain about my food.

But with the potatoes, it's a meal that I eat almost every morning. And I'm just tired of facing the same bland potatoes every day. And I want to complain, but I can't. Go ahead. Call me a wussy. Embarassed

Maybe they just re-use the potatoes day after day after day, and the reason they havn't changed them is because no one has been eating them... Razz
