at least my special after school class students.

I was showing them some pics of myself, some with some ex-s (non Korean obviously) and they said.. you should marry a Korean girl!

I said.. Naahh.. they whine, and I imitated the nauseating whine of some of our girl students and they boys said

No.. girls students crazy - korean women quiet.

anyways... the point of recounting this and the point of the POST is you read all these posts and comments about how Koreans want to shield their women away from foreigners, etc.

yet.. that's not the case in my highschool. When I mentioned to my VP that a girl in the corner store was hot, he offered to "introduce" me.
(she left shortly thereafter... DAMN!)

and now these comments from my highschool students who are merely several years away from being the famous Korean male "cockblockers".

so - something is NOT quite computing.???

or maybe I am merely among an "enlightened" crowd?
or I am deemed "worthy"

or what?

It's almost as if individual Koreans hold different opinions.

ego-trip?
Saying one thing and doing it is something else. I'm sure if you said to the higher-ups at your schools "know any nice girls?" you'd find them bend over backwards not to help you.

You don't say! Could it be possible? After spending a year on Dave's ESL Cafe and reading hundreds of blanket statements about Koreans and their viewpoints, I'd started to doubt this. Twisted Evil

hehehe

well I'm just saying thta I haven't found this great horror or even great reticence that is CONSTANTLY paraded on this board.

granted, I haven't ACTIVELY sought out "find me a nice girl" or "introduction" help and it's possible this is mere politeness, talking the talk which would change if a walk had to be walked.

but I thought I should note it.

and my Korean highschoolers regularly ask me if I have a Korean girlfriend, so clearly, it's not like they find the concept shocking or incomprehensible or horrifying, etc.

On a similar note, I just spent an hour at the park with my son. I was sitting on the bench watching him play, with about thirty Korean kids running around.

Not one "hi".

Anyone that says Korea is not changing, is blind.

When I was single I had many Koreans tell me that they would like me to marry a Korean woman. Then I would ask them, "Do you want me to marry a korean woman who is related to you?" Their answer,"No!"

If you ever decide to take that walk, here's some advice. You will find women that are open to dating/marrying a foreigner. And you will find women that are completely closed off to the idea. I've had this argument here on Dave's before. Yes, times are changing, but I still think that most Korean parents nowadays would still balk at the idea of their daughter/son marrying a foreigner. If you were to "actively seek out a nice Korean girl," don't be surprised if you are rejected based on the sole fact that you aren't Korean. Also, don't be surprised if your Korean girlfriend and her family welcome you with open arms. Every situation is different.

Plus, you gotta take into account a slew of other factors. Are you white? Black? Latino? Chinese? Do you speak enough Korean to communicate with her family? What kind of job do you hold? How much money do you make? Can you afford a house? Where are you from? What is your background? How long do you plan on living here in Korea? If you decide to get married, will you and your Korean wife remain here? If so, are you willing to house your in-laws? And so on and so forth... I'm an American gyopo and am currently dating a Korean girl, and though it hasn't even been a year yet, things are getting serious. She's totally amazing. And her family is incredibly supportive of our relationship. When my parents come out here to visit me in March, we're going to get together with her parents to discuss some things. Am I ready to marry her? No. But we've talked about it, and though she and I are on the same page and have agreed to take things one step at a time, I'm facing a lot of pressure from her parents. But fact is, I have a lot of things to ponder before I make any decisions.
